It was quite obvious that Akanji suited this role better than him at least in attacking perspective. Akanji released the ball quicker to KDB/Grealish and made off ball running to support them. Although Akanji was not that comfortable playing on the left.

Josko held the ball with too many touches when a clear crisp sideway pass would release Grealish. Otherwise the opposition wing back would close the gap. When he finally did sideway pass it often came from his right foot and naturally it would be much easier for the opposition wing back to intercept rather than a left foot pass.

Feel bad for Josko. All his play style is clearly a center back. Crystal palace and Arsenal both targeted his side and used his right foot pass as a counter attack trigger. He needs a left back to hold the width. We don't have one. Hopefully next season he can play with a left back.

I feel bad for him playing out of position , pep shouldnt do that with every player imo

He doesn’t.

He just does on some, but we very rarely have conventional positions.

I think he will have learned a lot this season and given our number/ quality at CB, I think Gvardiol will be happy with his level of game time when fit.

The threat was down that side because that's where we kept giving the ball away, wasn't a Gvardiol problem.

No

When Crystal Palace built from the back they also targeted this side because Josko was not able to quickly jump onto the man in front of him when the ball came though like Akanji/Ake/Walker(in his prime) on LCB/RCB position. Exactly the same as how Stones reacted in 2021 CL final with Chelsea goal. They were just not quick enough to jump onto the man in front but still jumped so the gap was there.

When you plays with Rico on the other side and the opposition still targets you it shows how the opposition coach views you as the weak link. Arsenal did the same trick. Crystal palace must have trained all week on this. The following teams will copy until Pep gets a solution.

if he’s such the obvious weak link, as you describe, that teams are designing their whole strategy around him, then why is Pep still playing him? Because in every game, even ones beset by injuries, we have options. Pep must see something redeeming in spite of these obvious shortfalls you’re always pointing out. It’s clear from your posts you don’t rate him and that’s fine. But, I find it odd when people have to hide their disdain with “strategic” rationale that also makes it seem Pep is blind.

ah he wants gvardiol to stop using his right foot, and also had a theory that gvardiol clearly prefers passing to kova much more than to his other teammates.

so let’s say gvardiol’s an utter and complete imbecile, willing to risk all his hard work since he was 6 to purposefully pass to kova when he should be passing to someone else.

the best coach in the world and his staff wouldn’t notice that? seriously?

i guess applejuice is pep’s heir apparent, with his ability to clearly see what pep cannot see.
