How long will this go ? Just bcoz he is in first season doesn't mean he makes basic mistakes.a lot of players in different teams hit the ground running or show amole quality in first season. People were quick to call him rolls Royce of a defender. He will eventually come good but doesn't he escapes criticism. He messed up against Chelsea too
he hasn’t played lb for two years apart a couple of games when he moved to germany. cb only since then.
no pre-season with city, pep himself said they have literally no time to train properly, they were supposed to do that in a free week before the sheffield game but then pep had surgery.

joško said he’s hoping they’ll have time to work on his positioning in january - JANUARY.

how many players in different teams hit the ground running with only basic training, without pre-season, playing out of position, in a team where the players get switched and shuffled all the time?

most teams have some sort of cohesion in that sense, if not a firm starting xi disturbed only by injuries or suspensions.

all of you that think he’s too slow for a fullback, that one’s on pep, gvardiol doesn’t get to choose when and where he’s gonna play. who knows, maybe choosing city will turn out to be a huge mistake, best young cb turned into a too slow lb. we’ll see.

on the other hand, his first assist for city went almost completely unnoticed. if that was one of the fan favorites we’d still be reading about it :D

Last season, he had a top speed of 34.57 km/h, ranking him the fastest centre-back in the Bundesliga. He is not slower than any of our other defenders, with the exception of Kyle Walker.

true but it is already clear that he’ll be blamed for city not buying and playing a natural, super fast lb.

We have a super-fast Walker at RB, and he is having a much worse season than a 21yo Josko in a new league, without a pre-season, so I agree with everything you said.

Also, I know he wasn’t good today but I’m unclear how his actions led to any of their goals. (I do feel like his play was pretty instrumental in our 2nd).
did you see the post in match thread where someone claimed city would be winning games comfortably without gvardiol? even those he didn’t play i guess :D #savecitysellgvardiolnow

He didn’t look that fast today.
Neither did Walker, who got turned by Bryan Gil, of all people, a couple of times. I just feel like he is not the one to blame for today's result. He is getting used to the LB position in our system and still doing great in most of the games. He was underwhelming but still better than most of the team in the 2nd half, IMO.

I acknowledge player ratings can be crap, but given this discussion I laughed at this from Manchester Evening News. City Xtra was similar.

I kind of agree... I thought he was fine. He was crap versus Chelsea but he was good on the ball and won the ball often in the attacking third today.
