At what point does it become about the players though. it can't be all the system. and if it is then the manager has to be sacked. and i don't believe that it is
I think Pep is doing what he can with the players he has. I don’t think it’s his fault but I don’t think this season hinges on Josko either. We saw the end of the last season when we had a more settled defense (and a more consistent partner on the wing), we were better. I don’t think anyone had a high degree of confidence when they saw the line up today.

i love him. im just immensely disappointed by his season. we have the most expensive defense in the league and at times it seems like its the worst defense in the league. that cant be a coincidence and it cant happen if players are performing.
you LOVE him? ahahahahahahahha

The problem is there are a bunch of people on this forum who really seem to hate him. And thus every time he steps on the field it’s, “complete disaster” or “not a defender.” And yes, there have been a few disasters but usually it’s not that bad, or certainly not any worse than the other defenders. When every comment is how he’s so completely terrible, it’s just not interesting.

Especially when those same posters are making excuses for other defenders, “they’re tired” or “they’re young” or “they’re playing out of position.” I don’t know if it’s because his fee or maybe he doesn’t fit what people want in a fullback (which given the fact he’s usually playing, may not be the same thing Pep wants?).
yep. it’s the same usernames, you can count on them, it’s like knowing the sun will rise in the morning :D

He is, he’s just not a fullback. Hes a big lad being tasked with marking small speedy wingers.
Personally, I like him as a fullback when he has license to attack.

In all the games when he has that freedom, we look good, when Pep reels him to just defend , we dont.

I like the guy, just wish he'd be stronger in the tackle, for a big lump he's a bit wishy washy when tackling

Yeah imagine if Madrid had asked Marcelo to stop attacking and just defend, boy he would've looked shit.

You might be right mate. That said when he played CB earlier in the season he was shite too. I'm not saying he will never be food enough, he's just never done anything defensively to show me he is the answer. Hope he he proves me wrong, but for the best part of 80m I expected to have seen more than I have.

most of these experts didn’t even realize pep would play ake at lb vs liverpool as he always did but i can only assume ake wasn’t able to run that much, he doesn’t seem fit at all.

also, people want proper fullback and resent gvardiol for not being one

and of course, his price, there’s nothing many city fans dislike more than paying a lot for a player, mark my words, if grealish leaves and city don’t buy a fancy expensive player, gvardiol hate will get much worse

oh this one’s on coaching or instructions coz he was very aggressive before city, not as in bad fouls and cards. the way he defends changed so much that it trickles to the national team and ppl are shocked and those who don’t watch the epl often think he’s playing like that coz he’s saving himself for city.

i wrote many times that no matter what he does he’ll be shat on, he will never be as fast as walker so he will get dribbled past. he’s often near or in the opp box and is expected to be in his defending position in this shit season with all the issues and no midfield. joško talked about that recently.

another thing, like the last madrid game, he will run his ass off even when he’s furthest away and then if he fails he gets all the shit without asking wtf were the others doing. happened several times. he literally would be better off just jogging in the back, but not that type of player.

saying he cannot defend is factually not true, but then you also get the “his goals are irrelevant” negating anything good in his game at all.

i still think there’s a huge possibility that he ruined his career by signing for city, which is very sad for me coz i really, really wanted him to even when i didn’t know it was even a possibility.

he lost 2 years of development as a cb, if pep leaves, what is he even?

oh and some of you should revisit 4peat title run in and his contributions to that title, both offensively and defensively. funnily enough all i ever see is foden single-handedly won that title, with haaland winning the golden boot, rodri having a ballon d’or season etc.
Theres no one whos complaining about him not being as fast as walker as far as i can see i mean how many players are that fast.

I'm knocking him for effort or even saying he isn't capable of defending i just thought that would be his strong point but i admit as a cb in a high line system like ours unless your rapid you can often be exposed. As a full back im just shocked at how good he is going forward even more than him not being quite the best defensively. Again im not expecting him to be like a prime kyle walker but more like ake and akanji were defensively in that position during the treble season.

Ruined is a bit harsh pep could make him the worlds best attacking full back once he fixes the rest of the team?

What you said about pep leaving applies to a lot of young players who play for us in unorthodox positions. outside of a pep team what would rico lewis position be or even foden hes played so many different positions im not even sure he knows what his best position is.

He was good last season but you can't possibly think he was more important than rodri? Look at how city fell apart after he got injured.

speaking of coaching.. can you tell some coaches in croatia to help kovacic grow a brain??

I've never seen a player be that braindead!

no no you misunderstood me, imho rodri was the player of the season. best player in the universe if u ask me. my point was, i always see on this forum that foden single-handedly won that title. imo it’s disrespectful to other players, esp rodri and then haaland but others too, joško included, but you never see anyone but foden mentioned.

i didn’t know of course what pep planned for gvardiol when he signed but i remember watching the burnley away last season, his first minutes for city, and i was asked “is gvardiol a winger now?”

a year and a half later and it’s obvious he wasn’t bought to play cb, when he was the best young cb in the world. and the vast majority of people here didn’t watch dinamo zagreb, rb leipzig and croatian national team regularly (if at all :D) so stop pretending that you know what he was like before city
