another terrific piece of defending by the worlds best left back, player of the season for sure

A defensive liability.
Gets targeted each game and he wasn’t in camera shot when Odoi got the ball.
 
That Croatian fan will come for me again and say I'm singling him out when I'm not, but he's just not getting it done. His passing and defending have been wildly inconsistent for two seasons now.

Lads I am sorry but this line of thought is just not working. Players aren't assigned positions at birth. he is a left back. he's been playing leftback for us for 2 years. That's his position. He's not "covering" at leftback. he is a leftback.
 
He is a left wing back if anything, not a left back.

Trent levels of defending from him this season.

I really hope Pep knocks this current right and left back setup he currently has on the head next season.

Hoping for more a more conventional right and left back system next season.
 
He is out best attacker being made to play in a back three to seemingly accommodate Nunes or Rico playing in midfield.

Baffling by Pep, get him 40 yards from their goal not ours and we will start scoring goals again.
 
His lack of intent for their goal is disgraceful.

I like him a lot but he does things in games that infuriate the life out of me. Every game without fail, there’s these random, crazy, braindead moments that put us under pressure out of nowhere. He’s been doing it since he signed and shows no sign of ridding these moments from his game.
 
Literally all his best games are as a wingback.

Marmoushes best games are as an inverted LW with Gvardiol.

Why arent they allowed to do their preferred roles in which them, and the team, always looked good.

Pep doesnt seem to learn quick enough about his players.

The poor defending against Hudson Odoi was obvious but my god was his passing poor. Underhit all of his diagonals and his through balls in the middle were telegraphed and intercepted almost every time he tried.

I was going to say exactly the same. Very poor on the ball today.
 
I think he is extremely tired and overplayed big time and makes more and more mistakes. easy balls given away a lot each game from him. positional errors too creeping in.

Also doesn’t help the midfield around him is either training cones or ghosts and all of our wingers besides one or two don’t do their jobs and track back.
 
Doesn't engage his opponent quick enough backs off and backs off every time until they are on our six yard box not a recent thing neither.
Compare that with Khushanov who it seems reads the game much better defensively.
 
Overplayed, probably carrying a niggle. It wasn't his best moment, but the goal is on Ederson. A shot near his post and he is not saving that? Didn't get any help from Doku or the midfield either. If it wasn't for Khusanov (if he carries on like that), he would have won POTS for us. He has been our best player (maybe not a big achievement this season), showing some absolute world-class form in some of his best games. People react on emotion, but this game will go down as one of those days, one of a few this season when he has underperformed. I would argue he has been one of our most consistent (in a good way) players this season.

I think Khushanov deserves all the praise he has received but I’m not sure the comparison is fair. Khush has had a much more circumscribed role, just look at the heat maps when they both play. It’s obviously harder to read the game defensively when you’re also being asked to push so far up. Yes, that’s expected of an Lb. And yes, he’s played there for two years. But we’d be silly to think 2 years is enough to master a position at this level.

I know I’ll sound like a mother when I say this, but I don’t understand why some young players are deserving of protection by Pep and others aren’t. He’s said he’s tired, he’s said he’s lost a lot of weight. If he’s so bad, there has to be someone else that can play, I mean it can’t be worse? I’ve rarely seen a player who appears to be nice get so much hate on social media. He has to be aware of that and it has to affect him. This forum is more measured, but you’ve got people who sh1t on him every week but then are singing the praises of Rico - for, what I think, a similar season that has had the same ups and downs…maybe this isn’t the right place for him.
 
Played well. One of our better players. Created a decent chance for Foden and was dangerous around the box and defended well for 89 minutes.

However, got stood up well by their goalscorer and was wrong footed when trying to block with his body weight on the leg he should have been trying to block the ball with.

Still young. Been our best player overall this season so no dramas with him for me. He’s going to end up a top class player. Our long term worries lie elsewhere.
 
Josko is runming on fumes. Has the most difficult role im the team as he is covering for a number of other players. That said he was gash today.
