I love the guy to death. Don’t think he would have extended his contract if we had won the UCL last season, would have meant the end of the cycle. It was clearly a mistake. He will still have good games, but him being an option there makes Rodri someone we’re too dependent on for big matches.

There’s no way Lavia will be ready next season, and Fernandinho won’t be around. Someone will need to be brought in

Three years ago: 'Dinho's finished, too old, lost his legs'. Wrong.

Two years ago: 'Dinho's finished, too old, lost his legs'. Wrong.

One year ago: 'Dinho's finished, too old, lost his legs'. Wrong.

Now: 'Dinho's finished, too old, lost his legs'. Hmmm.

Think more sane, rational people here are gonna go with it being an off day, precipitated mainly by the way Saints specifically played, which made about half a dozen of our players look awful. Would've hardly been any different for Rodri out there.

did not look good in any of his games this season. seems to have lost a step which is totally fine at 36. would even prefer gündo as a 6 (which probably only works with bernardo next to him).

Nothing wrong with him, he can be played any time when we are 1-0 up or 2-0 up and we need to make sure we dont concede. 15-25 minutes in games like that.

To play him as a starter vs a team that presses well and Gundogan playing just ahead of him who will not offer any help defensively well Dinho is not able to play that anymore and that is a tactical mistake by the manager, a big one.

Who was Pep supposed to play there?

Lets not pretend this started before last season. He clearly is too old now weve done what we did with yaya and kept him for a year too long.

I'll say it in this thread but I mean the same for a few other players too.

If everyone or mostly everyone did well and Fernandinho had played like he had done then there'd be a serious issue. But pretty much everybody in the team had problems. With the exception of maybe Grealish and Cancelo amongst the outfield starters, pretty much everybody struggled.

I'm not sure the younger version of this guy would have fared much better if everything else had been the same. He's always been prone to the odd sloppy moments in games (despite what people may say) and when everybody is screwing up, chances are there's something else causing the issues.

Agreed.
He wasn’t great but that started with the way he was pressed by Southampton and the lack of support from the people around him, especially in midfield, he was left with few options at times .

Asking too much. He should not be asked at 36 to win us games. New players need to step up.

It is the same with Grealish. Fantastic transfer and so far started great but games like today without Kev he needs to be a match winner.

The baton needs to be passed. You can throw Gundo into the equation also.

He's just not good enough anymore against teams that actually press well and high. Would probably still be good enough against Burnley and the likes, at least let's hope so. Didn't understand why it wasn't Gundogan who played the pivot from start. Maybe it was never the intention to give KdB or Foden more than 30 mins but still.

Just had a few misplaced passes still recovered well for some of these. Put a few decent through balls in don't think he's gone at all just had a worse game than usual

Can't remember him playing as badly as that before. He looked completely dejected when he came off.

Great player and I'm sure he will shake it off and go again. One of the best to wear the shirt.

Dhino is a legend, but he was poor today and perhaps age has finally caught up with him. Love the guy to bits and whatever happens this season he will be one the finest DM that the PL has ever seen.

Fernandinho applying for British citizenship. Interesting if true.

Came here to post this. Future coaching role? His family seem very settled here, give it a few years and his son will be in the south stand complaining about the halftime beer service. He loves City.
