My gripe with Akanji is he often just moves the ball too slowly despite having a lot of it

I think both he and Dias are guilty of that.

I've said this before, but he's the absolute perfect example of a player who you point to and shows why mentality is such an essential trait in a player. Don't get me wrong, I love his game and realise his importance, but as you said, he's not switched on all the time and is sometimes not near aggressive enough for me.

However, you this downside, as his pace on our backline is essential.

Akanji and Gvardiol are currently our best defenders. Dias and Stones less so. Walker has been declining.

He was dreadful. But strongly suspect he was only playing as he is slightly less fucked than Dias, Stones and Ake. Could barely get his legs moving.

Agreed. He never helped Gvardiol either. Seemed to minimise his movement as much as possible, which isn’t like him.
