Well. it can easily be said about anyone except Rodri and KDB from our 6 players upfront, but if anyone deserves the place it's Mahrez because if you look at his statistics and goals he has scored this year, what can be said ?

And last year as well - his involvement in getting to the CL final was crucial..

I think he is the most underrated player in this City squad..
For me CL Mahrez is one of our most important players. PL Mahrez has nothing like the same influence/impact. I think if he was at the top of his game, he would be playing pretty much every week like KDB, especially when you consider how inconsistent our forward line has been this season.

LOL

Mahrez scored 25 goals this season already, became a regular penalty taker in the big matches and has 7-8 assists as well, how the hell some unknown guy from Argentinian league replaces him or academy "graduate" Palmer ?

Mahrez is the POTY for me and most probably he will win that.. At least Etihad POTY..

You can’t be player of the year for scoring a shit load of penalties and goals when we’re 4-0 up. That was just his second league goal this season from open play that had any effect on the result of the match.

If he wasn’t our penalty taker absolutely nobody would be saying he should be player of the year.

Him and Gundo showed why they didn't start vs Liverpool (2:2) and why we struggled with them vs Atletico. Both were superb earlier in the season, e.g. vs PSG, but lost a bit of form. Jesus and Grealish to replace them vs Real?

Thought 2nd half Mahrez was very good. First half much less so but the same could be said for most of them. Not having Grealish to come in for him. If you told Mahrez to take no risks and just keep the ball constantly he could do it with ease. Would just barely score too like Jack has all season

Yep, it's unfortunate to see how many take his unbelievable quality for granted.

Mahrez has 6 goals from open play this season that have had any real affect on the game. One against Wycombe, one against Peterborough, goals against Brugge and Sporting, the volley against Utd and the goal tonight. So two against lower league opposition, two tap ins and two deflected goals. That’s not much for someone with ‘unbelievable quality’.

Nobody is taking a guy who has scored 20+ goals for granted. By the same token, there’s more to the game than numbers alone. Tonight he finished the game with a goal and assist, so if you didn’t see the game you’d be inclined to think Mahrez must have played well. He was abysmal out there, 1st half especially.

Pep has already commented on how this is not Mahrez best season and some of us agree with him.

You're talking about his goalscoring, I'm talking about his general play.

Some right nut jobs on here. Yet again scores for us at a vital time and yet hes getting slagged off. Made some really poor choices first half and wasn't playing well but its no coincidence all the chances were falling to him. second half he was much better, got the vital opener and was a threat for the rest of the half.

That is one very bizarre way of looking at things. What's your definition of "any real affect on the game"? Have you broken down the goals of every other player too or are we just doing it for Mahrez?

That stat surely cannot be correct. I’d be very surprised.
