Our best teams were 17/18 & 18/19 we didn't have or need a maverick full back like Cancelo. He is just to poor defensively and tactically to be in our starting line-up.

His Offensive attributes (which are not that great because of his decision making) do not outweigh his defensive flaws.

He has been poor since January similar to last season his seems to fall off a cliff in the latter stages of this season.

There's a reason he was dropped for last seasons final. Walker and Zinchenko has to be a fullback pairing in big games.

He’s a bit like that Trent character at Klanfield , he’s alright going forward but he’s a liability when defending.

Trent has mental strength, that’s the difference

Just watched the final few minutes again as much as that hurt and the amount of stupid decisions he made was incredible, first on a short corner he inexplicably crosses it while we have one guy in the box and Courtois easily claims it, from there we never manage to get hold of the ball again, enter the 90th minute a Madrid player is looking for Benzema at the far post everyone steps up to play him offside except Joao who steps back and plays him on and then instead of trying to block him he just stops running and allows Benzema the freedom to cut it back into the six yard box, yes Ederson and Dias should do better but Cancelo instigated all that.

From kick off Ederson stupidly gives the ball straight back to Madrid, Courtois hoofs it towards Vinicius and Cancelo makes a ridiculous attempt to win the ball, misses it and allows Vinicius to go behind him, Rodri saves it but unfortunately he passes it to none other than Joao who tries a chipped pass to Foden, Madrid intercept and go to the right side where the cross comes and Rodrygo scores again.

Now the guy usually has brainfarts every game but we mostly get away with it, not this time.

So much of it is on Cancelo.

Ridiculous decision making. Embarrassing for a player at his level.

Would like to see Cancelo play as a winger sometimes. Would make more of his strengths and minimise his weaknesses.

Looks like we find ourselves a scapegoat than? Come on.
The player has been absolutely superb for us at both left and right back. And we should know by now the prime characteristic Pep wants from his full backs is defend high and attack like a winger.

Cancelo is probably one of the first on the team sheets and rightly so. Hopefully scoring another sitter vs Newcastle. For the ones with a short memory … rewatch those highlights instead of the last few minutes vs Real.

He infuriates me at times but can’t knock the header. Great set up that .Bit slow getting back sometimes.

Great today. Its easy to forget just how little he's actually played at right back for us. Always going to get criticism because he's one of a few that's allowed freedom to take chances and lose the ball, it's what enables him to come up with magic and often look like our most creative player and the very fact Pep gives him that license is testament to his quality. He's had a sensational season, it's completely mental the shit he's been getting recently.
