Mad some of the hyperbole on this thread. He was dire Weds did okay yday against a woeful Sancho and some folk describing him as a ‘brilliant player’ and the saviour of our season. To get back to the level we were at the lad needs to be on the bench and a better player on the pitch.
Which players are better in the club right now?
  • KDB and Gundogan are old and hit&miss
  • Savio and Doku are raw and hit&miss
  • Lewis has gone way backwards such that he's now almost always miss
  • Kovaciv is generally good to be fair
  • McAtee and Grealish aren't played enough this season.
  • Foden only arrived this season very recently.
  • Bernardo was good yesterday but before that was very hit&miss.
  • Imo Nunes has had his occasional miss but been more hit than anyone else more often.

He is more that good enough for City. He is part of the newbies that'll replace KDB, Gundogan, Bernardo, Walker, etc and when it clicks we'll have a very fast, sleek team. I'm looking forward to Nunes being more and more influential in City version 5.1 (or whatever it is these days).

If yoo think he can reach the levels of KDB Gundo Silva and Walker I think you’re crazy. He’s not a kid he’s an experienced pro and he’s nowhere near the level they were. He wouldn’t have got, and didn’t in fact get anywhere near the starting 11 of previous dominant city teams. He can’t get a game in his natural position against all the players you listed as not as good mate so I don’t see what’s changing to suddenly make him good enough. If we aspire to continue as we have this season, struggling, I’m sure he will fit right in.

Nunes is (far) better than Walker attacking wise, which is good enough vs most teams. Against top teams we'll need a specialist like Walker, but it won't be easy to find one. Guess we'll use Akanji at RB vs teams like Real if we continue in the CL.

Nunes isn't as talented as our top midfielders. But he is a squad player that can be really important due to his versatility. Pep loves versatile players, they can be really useful over the course of a season.

He's doing well, so appreciate it for what it is. No successful team has 22 world-class players in the squad. It takes a blend of strengths and personalities to build a great team, and I struggle to name a more consistent performer than Nunes this season, despite the multiple roles he has been asked to fulfil.

Going forward he could be useful as a backup right back, more than good enough to play a number of games throughout the season and then have you the first RB playing the big/important games, even more so if we are potentially looking at a RB that can also play in the middle like cambiaso.

I can't argue about him not playing more thus season or trusted in midfield because Pep has bamboozled me and frustrated me this season.

Also I'm not sure who's an alternative at RB now (since Akanji and Lewis seem very poor there these days).

Other than the 5 minutes of madness against United though I believe he has been class. Not prime KDB Gundogan , Silva or Yaya but i don't know where that class of player exist today. (Maybe Marmoush is)

If it was my call I'd love to see a high energy more direct team like this.

............Ederson.............. (or Ortega)
..........Stones Dias.......... (or Ake / Reis)
Nunes Kovacic Gvardiol (or Kusenov / Bernardo)
Savio ...Grealish ...Doku (or Foden / KDB)
....Marmoush Haaland... (or McAtee / Bobb)

I’m sorry but we won’t be a great side again until a Kovacic and Nunes aren’t starters. You also have Doku Grealish and Savio before Foden. Not for me.

All opinions so fair enough but Foden in my eyes is only at the same level as Doku because he's been missing all season. Very good yesterday though so hopefully getting back to his best.

I think his biggest problem is that he appears to not like the physical side of the game, he sometimes looks like he is scared of a potential challenge. However, every time he has played this season he has looked good, yes there have been mistakes, but every player in this team right now is making mistakes and most other players are making more. He has the pace and the technique to play the RB role and make it his own, I look forward to seeing him grow into the position

I agree, he needs to bulk up on strength and toughen up.

Nunes is slowly winning me over due to his versatility and I'm not going to pick holes in his mistakes due to unfamiliararity and naivety in covering positions he's not accomplished with. Until the last month or so I thought it best we sell him. I've changed my mind bacause when we have enough players in their natural positions he'll be good to come off the the bench and deputie in several positions, and perhaps start in his favoured midfield role in lesser games. I like his attitude and that I haven't read he's unhappy not playing in his natural position. A good squad player getting better so no need to sell.

Welcome to the club. Always knew you'd join eventually :)

Considering how alien the role is, and how many good things we have seen, the way I see it, he can only get better at it right?

There's obviously some oddities here and there and mistakes, but he has NEVER played there before.

If he can clean those things up a bit, his positive attributes are so good for this role.

And unlike Cancelo, I don't think he will be a little bitch about it.

Though he generally played well again, just that one error for the goal. No need to try and win the ball, but that's the kind of understandable mistake he'll hopefully learn from.

Needed his mates to bail him out.

Good game again. Uttered the words "well done Nunes" or something similar more than i said it for any other player tonight. I'm sure he'll get the usual suspects slaughter him for one costly error though.
