Probably a combination of a few things that made him so mad really. Like the 4th time he's been forced off this season due to reckless play and especially with the title on the line he wanted to stay and contribute.

Does anyone know if Eddie has ever won MOTM?

Ortega definitely deserved but just can't seem to find the stats on if Eddie has.

Unofficial this, but for me, he was in the CL final last year. Other than that though, possibly not.

Agreed, Ederson was good, but with the kick in the face he would have had a hard time copying the reaction save like Ortega pulled off. But why did Ederson get so mad?
Part of the reason Ederson was so mad and I think at least partly behind his comment:
“No one understands, but me. see you soon,” is because he's got a large contingent of family/friends over from Brazil atm.

He was hoping would be able to share the post title celebrations, it won't be quite the same if he's not going to be playing! :-(

Get well soon!

I dont think it was a red, because the ball wasn't as high. It was at a height where going for it with your feet would be normal for an outfield player.

However, for all the "entitled to go for the ball".... Yes he was. But if he doesn't get it, he's entitled to be punished too. A midfielder is entitled to go for a tackle, but if they don't get it, it can be a red card. I don't see why plenty of commentators don't ever equate the two and say that "yes, he was entitled to go for it, but by not getting the ball and hitting the other player late, he might be off".
I'll still argue that he's endangered Ederson - I think the broken eye socket speaks volumes ;)
The rules are different from even 10 years back, and they should be applied consistently (ok it's PGMOL - or whatever they're called this week).
Endangering a player is a red card - my opinion :)

aha! inside info - sounds valid :)

Personally, I think that when he slipped and fell on the resulting dead ball, the Dr stepped in and told them he needed replacing.

It was clear he was injured and Romero indicated it was his hip that caught Ederson in the face/head. That means it was a strong impact injury to the head.

We all know players want to stay on, and I’m going to assume he wasn’t unconscious when the Physio got to him, so he shaped up and pulled himself together enough to pass the Concussion Protocol.

Thereafter, because it happed so quickly, I think the Dr pulled the plug because of balance, which may have just been a slip.

Either way, no-one wants to come out, especially a keeper who has already been in the wars a few times this season, in the big games at the business end of the season, but needs must.

Ederson has to understand this is not just about him, but the sacrifices of his teammates and respect for the work they are continuing to do.

He seems a bit of a nutter to begin with, so I’m not sure if he gets it or not, but it’s not about him, much as he’s loved!

I hope he gets better soon and there is no permanent damage or surgery required, and that he has a long relaxing summer to enjoy some recuperation and rejuvenation.

Out of the COPA America this summer unfortunately for him. He's currently their best keeper. Hopefully he gets a full rest this summer and come back stronger.
