He should have gone longer in my opinion In the early stages. Yes, a dreadful ball by Stones. I know what you are saying though. I just think Ederson is better overall.
I think Ederson is better overall but I also think there are so many better keepers out there now.
Goalkeeping, like all other positions on the pitch, is moving on.
When I see the likes of Courtois, Oblak and Donnarumma, Martinez and Raya today and then see our two flapping away , I think we must improve.

Ortega was awful today. Even saves that looked good weren't. One hit his forearm and it could have gone anywhere.

A bit disappointed some City fans are dismissing Ederson after all his games. I was wondering why he was out today.

I think your point is right but the examples you use are a bit flawed. Oblak, Donnarumma and Cortouis are all world-class at the traditional aspect of goalkeeping. Two of them plays for clubs that plays a style that accepts their limited ability on the ball. Donnarumma is a fish out of water at PSG under Enrique but their dominance in their league makes it viable.
The two other examples are decent enough, Martinez has been a bit ahead of the curve for the last couple of years because he is good enough with his feet at a high-level and a good shot-stopper. Raya is an annoyingly well-rounded.

I do agree with you that the gk position has evolved yet again. First the traditional keepers, then the importance of sweepers and them being comfortable in the build-up and now we have soon reached the point where one aspect doesn't take precedence over the other. It is only natural that a decade or so after a change that the young players coming through will we better rounded for what is asked of them than their predecessors.

Our main issue is that any keeper we will have going forward will face more shots and chances than Ederson has over the last decade because the massive change we have seen stylistically in England over the past 2 or 3 years leads to basically every team being capable to create more themselves. The total control I think will be a thing of the past.

Massively underrated and not just hear. Absence of Ederson been a single most important reason we lost against Arsenal. And I respect Ortega, but particularly at the day he was bad.

Without Ederson we were poor playing from the back. Ortega barely made any connection with City player on long balls too. Ederson would and not once.

Ederson is best GK in the world on the ball. Thats crazy good. We need him this season very much if we want to have any pleasure

Suits our style of play beyond all doubt and Ortega’s last few matches in goal shows Ederson is our number one. Although, I think Ortega is a decent understudy, he hasn’t got the passing ability Ederson has and neither has most other goalkeepers. Whatever the reason for his omission v Orient, I hope it’s due to injury or illness and he’s fully recovered to take his place v Real Madrid.

If you turn the TV off at 80 mins, you'd be convinced he was a Man of the Match candidate.

Unquestionably at fault for the 2nd, and while Rico got left for dead on the 3rd, he's nowhere near the ball and doesn't need to be rushing out for that.

It's a shame because he played so well for most of the game then just had 10 minutes of sheer insanity.
