lets see how many turn up on a cold and wet December Tuesday night when they play the likes of Peterborough and they are mid-table and have sold all their best players?

Some of you do spout some shit on here ffs, Manchester City in their first season of European football for donkeys years attracted crowds of 17,000 and 21,000 and your fans had to be enticed to a 1/4 final UEFA Cup tie with tickets priced at £5 and £1 LOL, great supporters aren't you, and City have consistently failed to fill up COMS since it's opening.

But do carry on trying to take the piss out of other clubs support wont you !!!

Fuck me spuds have won a game!Tell us-are you "Breaking the top four this year?"

36,000 is a great crowd for a championship side and if you think they are unloyal then your an idiot!

The irony in this thread, Jesus christ.

What gate did we get for out first game in Division 1 when we went down?

Before you ask what year, any fucking year.

Shut up you tools. City fans have branded themselves the best fans in the world just as much as Newcastle have. It's all bollocks.

Correct. Those in the thread trying to take the piss out of Newcastle and so bigging up City are just embarrassing us.
Newcastle have a good loyal following as proven over many years. 36K is a great attendance

because our ground had a capacity of 34000
And our average was 28,000

think you're getting the seasons mixed up mate. 28,000 was city's average in the 3rd division in 98-99. the last time city were in the division now known as the championship there wasn't a single league crowd below 30,000 and the average wasn't far off 33,000 in a 34,000 capacity stadium.

newcastle's crowd of 36,000 wasn't that bad under the circumstances but the fact remains that 25% of their average crowd last season didn't turn up. city's attendances held up following relegations to the 2nd level in 1996 (despite the dire 96-97 season) and 2001.

I find it embarrassing too. We are not the best or most loyal fans in the world, and neither are they. I hate it when City fans get arrogant.

The fans who could really make a claim to be the most loyal are the ones who follow Rochdale and the likes around the country.

36K in Division 2 is more than we ever got when down there.

If we'd have gone down under Pierce and the takeover not happened, we would have been looking at less than that, no doubt at all.

So drop it before some Geordie comes on here and makes you all look stupid.

Re: 36,000 Geordies

What a pointless thread, I can remember 16k at Maine Rd in the second tier against Brighton in 88/89 and we got promoted that season, never mind the 8,000-odd against Swindon just before Joe and Malcolm arrived. All clubs have had highs and lows in terms of attendances, all this "we're more loyal than you" stuff is a bag of shite.

Re: 36,000 Geordies

To be fair in the current economic climate, the holiday season and the fact their club is a shambles it is a bloody good turnout.

I wonder how many we would have got if we were in the same position.

Re: 36,000 Geordies

I think people are missing the point of this thread.

36,000 is a good turnout, however the myth that the geordie nation, turn up week in, week out, that there are a million of them that havn't missed a game, home or away for the last 50 years has been dispelled immediately.

IMO, they are a club that the media love to propel to something that they are not and have never been and their fans love it, infact they join in with it.

And for the guys saying that they got more than us, lets see what they get when they drop again to the third tier, just like we did?

I remember some of our fans wearing T-Shirst saying "MCFC - SHIT TEAM, GREAT FANS" T-shirts a few years ago. I remember our team walking out with a banner saying "Best Fans in the Land" at Maine Road.

We do normally have a shit team, not from now on though and yes, we do have great fans mate.

City have always had a firm support base of around 35,000 in my opinion, these people would be there week in week out no matter what, my point is that i honestly dont think that Newcastle would have the same if they dropped to the depths that we did.

Re: 36,000 Geordies

Well we might find out how the Geordie support holds up in the third division next season, mate!!!
