Well we might find out how the Geordie support holds up in the third division next season, mate!!!

Possibly, We all know just what can happen to a club and team in freefall dont we.

Personally hope they dont, they should be in the Prem, along with their 55,000 fans who never missed a game in the championship!

;-)

The irony in this thread, Jesus christ.

What gate did we get for out first game in Division 1 when we went down?

Before you ask what year, any fucking year.

Shut up you tools. City fans have branded themselves the best fans in the world just as much as Newcastle have. It's all bollocks.

Correct. Those in the thread trying to take the piss out of Newcastle and so bigging up City are just embarrassing us.
Newcastle have a good loyal following as proven over many years. 36K is a great attendance

all of these.

im i the only one that wishes them well.
ive got nothing against newcastle infact i quite like the geordies ive met.

I remember some of our fans wearing T-Shirst saying "MCFC - SHIT TEAM, GREAT FANS" T-shirts a few years ago. I remember our team walking out with a banner saying "Best Fans in the Land" at Maine Road.

We do normally have a shit team, not from now on though and yes, we do have great fans mate.

City have always had a firm support base of around 35,000 in my opinion, these people would be there week in week out no matter what, my point is that i honestly dont think that Newcastle would have the same if they dropped to the depths that we did.

i think you're right mate but they've started well and if they can maintain a promotion challenge their crowds will get back towards their recent levels. however i checked up the last time they were playing at the 2nd level in the 1990's and their average league crowd dropped to 16,879 which i think reinforces your earlier point. we shall see.

What a pointless thread, I can remember 16k at Maine Rd in the second tier against Brighton in 88/89 and we got promoted that season.

I was one of them, Paul Moulden scored a cracker I think ?

Newcastle united on saturday

Is it impressive that they achived the 4th highest attendance of the day even though not in the top flight, or has the geordie myth of being the best and most loyal fans been exposed by the 15,000 stay aways?

Re: Newcastle united on saturday

12 months ago we got 36k for our opening home game against West Ham

Re: Newcastle united on saturday

To be fair to them, I think if Ashley had sold up more would have attended. I certainly would think twice before giving him any of my money, he's an absolute joker.

Re: Newcastle united on saturday

Doesn't help being on live on the BBC/Sky every week in the evening.

It is like City in 2001/02, every game seemed to be on ITV/ITV Digital.
