Has there been any actual reports on his fitness since the idiotic Barcelona match that provides any sort of timetable or is it all speculation and anecdotes based on mates mowing their lawns? Genuine question as I’ve not heard or seen anything since the perplexing mid week friendly match that injured two of our players

A player that was out for most of last seas J with really bad hamstring injury and has previous in terms of shoulder injuries. Why didn't we just keep Lavia.

games coming quick now, Rodri cannot and should not start all of them. that would just raise the chance of him getting injured. Phillips needs to be able to come in and rotate.
At least we can play Gundo deep with Bernardo and Kev completing the midfield. If Gundo needs legs alongside him then we just invert Cancelo into midfield, so Ilkay is not exposed on a counter or something. Would prefer to have Phillips available but we still have a solution to rest Rodri.

We need him to be fit and ready to play with games coming every 3 days. I have no idea what's happening behind the scenes but he seems very fragile.

Great to see him with the travelling squad for the CL and fully participating in training.

As always, support the player: we needed cover for Rodri, and will need someone alongside him, and we have chosen Kalvin. Others, including Romeo Lavia, are not currently players at this club; they may return but Kalvin is here, now.

I have that uneasy sense that Kalvin is being lined up for whipping boy status, with some members of the forum just waiting for a bad game or an injury to start the ball rolling on weekly criticism. Why not just get behind him, encourage him and hope that he delivers what the scouting team saw when they said that he would be an ideal fit?

For all the great work our recruiting do (and they do) our achilles heel has been buying crocks or at best people with dodgy previous injury history.
I go right back to Trevor Francis in this regard. I think this is the reason we are hyper nervous that Kalvin might be this way inclined. I truly hope this wont be the case but yes there is some concern.

Roque Santa Cruz, Bojinov, Delph, Jovetic, Bellamy, Fowler, Lee Macken, Gordon Smith, Graeme Baker, Derek Parlane were all known physio room dwellers before we bought them. I challenge any other club to post that number of the walking wounded theyd already bought broken when they opened the box
(Im not talking about players who got badly injured whilst playing for us ie Alfie Haaland Im talking about those who legs were ticking time bombs before we got them)

We even got incredibly lucky with Vinny Kompany who had a dreadful record before we bought him (even worse than his record when he played for us)

Bet Sir Dave Whelan of Wigan would have passed a medical to play for us and wed have been after him back in the day.

Hopefully he can stay fit as we'll need him this season. It's going to take far more than one season for him to look anywhere near as good as Rodri in our team. That's a role that is so specialised to how Pep wants us to play it's incredibly difficult, but he has so much energy and anticipation that he could play alongside Rodri to see games out or replace him when games are won initially. The glimpses I've seen of him he's not shown enough composure to keep the ball and pass to feet, a fair few times he's hooked the ball clear aerially just to get it away and that's not what Pep will want to see. He's shown enough from his time with Leeds and England that he's got the ability to be a creative player from the deeper positions and defend successfully on the front foot. If this one works out we'll have one hell of a player on our hands. I hope it does.
