We should have give it him though, thats the point.Instead we bought an injury prone fella for daft money who cant ever get on the pitch.

Lewis has been given a chance, and look how that has turned out.

As for the massively in our favour......not if he chooses to go to our rivals, which he is fully entitled to do.

Lavia is an interesting one. Only weeks after we sold him there were multiple reports saying Chelsea had bid 50m for him. New reports saying they will be back in for him in January.

Yet I seem to remember you where one of the most vocal posters saying we should sign Phillips and he will be brilliant for us. Hindsight is a wonderful thing

He has had a tough start, but supporters should support. Let's get behind him until he proves us wrong - a dislocated shoulder is a tough one.

We didnt give Lavia a real chance to prove himself last season with all those Rodri back up time went to Ferna. A real miss.

It looks that way but he is only 18, 17 when he left, I think. He is a top prospect, but we have first refusal and, if he keeps doing as well as he has, we may well move for him again. If not, he will be sold on and we will receive money from his sale. It is very, very early to say that he would have made it with us. I hope he does well, regardless.

If this continues, his fitness problems we might have to look at another CDM in the summer.

Why are people going after Southgate? Had Phillips not gone to wc people would have abused Southgate for not taking him and he is still getting abuse because he went there?

This is an all time classic Bluemoon thread.

For all we know Phillips wasn't fit to train because he was getting over the flu, but the overactive imaginations on here have managed to spin it up into him turning up 3 stone overweight, throwing up on the side of the training ground with a 3 day hangover because he spent the week he had off on some combination of a lads holiday to Ibiza, a stag night in Blackpool and a meeting of the Bullingdon club.

This happens every single time we sign someone who has injury problems at the beginning. Go read the first few months of Nathan Aké's 20/21 performance thread and it was exactly the same. "Waste of money", "Jack Rodwell", not forgetting the cries of "he needs to pull his finger out" from people who've never met the guy, let alone know what he's like behind the scenes.

I do not understand why such a large % of people on here are always so desperate to create a villain in the City squad to be angry at.

The club bosses have decided that the best way to counter the negativity in the media is to sign as many English star players as possible. This explains why we spent nearly 150m on Grealish and Phillips. Both are good players, personally I like Jack, but arguably we could have signed better players for such money. Alvarez cost us 15m, and we could have signed Enzo Fernandez for 10m!

He owes us big time.
We allowed him to get the op so he could be in contention for the World Cup.
He did and now he's not 'ready' to play.

I'm not defending Phillips in general if he has returned from the world cup with a fitness problem that is his responsibility and unprofessional.
But in terms of timing of his operation it must have been in everyones interest to have it done as soon as possible once it was realised he needed it.

We don't know the problem but Guardiola does not usually say someone returns unift if they have just been unwell or injured he generally says he is unwell or injured. I suspect he is a bit fed up with the situation.

Maybe the club bosses didn't choose to sign English players due to " media negativity ", but because they thought they would be good additions for the team ?

And perhaps they didn't think that Fernandes was a good enough signing for us, or there was another reason why they didn't bite ?

Do you know for a fact that your opening statement is correct ?

When Pep's unhappy about a player's conditioning he's not shy about it. He got asked about Mahrez earlier in the season and he outright said his physical fitness wasn't good enough and he'd not play until his body fat was down. He said the same about Nasri and Yaya when they were overweight.

It also makes zero sense that Phillips couldn't train because he was unfit unless it's ilness or injury. Training is exactly what you need if you're out of condition or lacking fitness.

If a player is ill or unwell, the club says that they are ill. They’ve done so many times over the past year or two.

Guardiola would very likely have said last night if he was ill, or had been struggling with illness and recovering. But instead he used very specific language to state that he returned unfit and in poor condition, and that he still wasn’t ready to train properly because of this.
