Not keen on stats without any context. How many passes did he make, and compare that to how many Rodri makes?

Also, he got caught on the ball 2 or 3 times in the 2nd half that could quite easily have resulted in goals.

Hope he can turn it round and get some confidence from somewhere, but he's the only player in the squad that shows next to nothing when he gets a chance.
The best defensive midfielder in the world sometimes get caught on the ball - why aren’t you expecting it from his back up? Rodri also cost us a goal against spurs yet he’s the best in the world. It happens.

Well the key difference being that Rodri plays 90 minutes twice a week, and has probably been caught 5 or 6 times all season.

Phillips plays 90 minutes today and gets caught 2 or 3 times in a half.

For me he was a bit rusty, but I fully understand your perspective. Rodri is the best DM in the world and obviously far superior to Kalvin. However, I thought he was promising today, and it was his best showing for us thus far, surely. I was initially on the let's keep Kalvin train, most recently on the "he had enough time, let's sell him" one, but now I would like to see how he does against Brighton. I saw promising signs out there, and some other posters did as well. We don't know what Pep thinks, so my current position is something like let's wait and see, but I am willing to give him a bit more time, till the end of the season :).

How can Rodri be the best in the world if he can't even get ahead of Cashmegiro in the Team of the Year...

Neat and tidy against opposition that were devoid of any passion.

Would i trust him to replace Rodri and ensure this team does not drop its standard? no
With all due respect there is not many players I can think of who I would trust to replace Rodri.

He made 72 successful passes.

Rodri averages 75, with 91% accuracy.

He also lost the ball 7 times. Rodri averages 8.7 per game.

Obviously can't make proper comparisons on one game compared to Rod's immense season, but I thought Kalvin was absolutely fine today. Made a couple of errors (every player does) but that's understandable with how rusty he is, and he pinged a few nice balls forward. Could've ended with a goal and an assist if luck had been a little more on his side.

It was a promising appearance for him, IMO. He's a City player. He's a nice lad. He's got great passing range. He's copped a hell of a lot of criticism this year (some of it fair, some of it far less fair) but I think he can play a role for us and I hope to see him stick around.

True say. Like any player in a Pep system.. 2nd season is where it is at.

Yes we should cut Kalvin some slack.
Yes he made some terrible decisions in World Cup and did not watch enough his body for a football pro player, but he seems he started working his way back.

Today, unlike the FA Cup game where he looked like an ex-football player, he looked like a football player again! He did not shine sure, but he wasn't bad either. He was decent enough. Let's hope he plays again Brighton.
I guess against Brentford we will play the strong lineup to gain some momentum.
