Perhaps Pep has decided he doesn’t think Phil is quite good enough yet?

Has anyone entertained such a possibility?

Even worse, maybe he will never be good enough?

They are all legitimate questions, and like I have said previously, I’m trying to take the emotion out of it and understand this from a football managers point of view.

As a group of fans, we are assuming he must be good enough because we really want him to be, because he’s local, because he’s a city fan. There is lot of romance in the story.

Im sure Pep rates him highly but clearly not highly enough at this moment to displace senior squad players.

If he isn't quite good enough yet then why keep him in the squad?

He needs a season out on loan, preferably abroad where teams would appreciate his skill.

then i fear a bit for his development. 5/10 mins here and there wont do anything for him

5/10 mins here and there is total nonsense (which you know), he had plenty of minutes last season and because after 4 games this season, he hasn't featured, you and others are already flapping about his development etc.

Is he better than 2 years ago for example? clearly the answer is yes, therefore he is developing. It might not be at a rate you like, but that's the way it is and he and the club seem fine with that.

Just have some patience.

The only reason Foden is still at the club is because he is a blue through and through and that is the massive difference to Sancho , Phil will show more patience and determination to make it to the top with his club because City are his team and always will be , i am loathe to see him go on loan but just maybe playing every week in the Bundesliga or La Liga for a few months is going to help his development more than getting splinters in his arse on our bench. If he has not started half a dozen games by xmas i would prefer him to get game time at the right club and come back with the experience of playing 90 minutes every week. There is no doubt he is potentially the best kid ever to come though our academy and either way and even if he doesnt go on loan , he is going to be a very good player and hopefully its going to be with us.

That was the only example I could think of. But if he could play vs. spurs, then why not against any other lower team?

Maybe he's currently not showing enough in training to warrant a start? Maybe others are showing better form, more hunger?

We are 4 games into the season. He will get his opportunities this season, but lets get the machine well oiled first. Pep had his reasons for not starting him or subbing him on yesterday, because we don't know what the reasons are, we get these knee-jerk posters saying he needs to go out on loan. Patience is needed.

Who are the knee-jerkers? Those who challenge the occasional Pep decision or those who rush to back every single one?
