Phil Foden is not as good a footballer as de Bruyne, Bernardo or David Silva.

Why should he be getting in ahead of any of them?

Fair enough, if it was Gundogan getting in attacking mid ahead of Foden, then maybe we could call for him to be getting in.

But he’s nowhere near as good as the other three so he’s bottom of the pile and shouldn’t be playing just because he’s from Stockport.

Sorry but there's absolutely no reason at the moment why David should be getting minutes over Phil. He's done, its Phil's time now without question.

There's no reason why D Silva should be in ahead of Foden - David Silva should be an impact sub at the moment.

I really don't think Phil Foden will reach his full potential here. I think we'll waste his most formative years (17 - 20) playing him in bit roles as he stagnates. So for his own good, I think the time has come for him to leave. Not on loan, but permanently. City can put in a 50 million buyback clause if they want. But if I were Foden, come summer I'm asking to be sold.

People keep saying loan him out. No, no, no, if I were Phil, I'm demanding to be sold. Loans are how talented young kids get their careers ruined.

Again I'll repeat, Phil Foden was better than Sancho 20 months ago. Today one is a top 10 player in Germany and Phil is still a kid who can't be trusted with cup games.

It's time to do what Kev did at Chelsea and Sancho here if he still has hopes of maximizing his potential, it's time to take your career into your own hand. There are kids who couldn't touch Phil 2 years ago who are all passing him left and right. I know it would hurt as a City fan, but for the sake of the kid, it's time to go. And not on loan. Permanently!

Unless Pep says the starting 8 position is yours to lose next year ( which I can guarantee you it isn't) I m advising Phil to step out of the shadow.

That's just me.

Lazy comparisons, mate, and unnecessary dramatism. Foden isn't a winger like Sancho but a midfileder. Can you point out how many of the greatest midfielders over the last 20 years played more games at a higher level than him? Scholes hadn't even made his debut for Manure when he was at Foden's age. Iniesta didn't play more than Foden and went on to become one of the greatest midfielders of all time.

Calm down, Foden is developing fine.

There's some massive delusion from some in this thread if anyone thinks Phil's going to be happy with his situation purely because he's a City fan. He's been patient for two seasons now, and that patience hasn't really got him anywhere.

He's a footballer first and foremost, and he's not playing football at the moment. He's meant to be Silva's replacement next season and as things stand, Pep can't trust him with more than 250 league minutes and cup games where there is actually more at stake.

If things don't improve, the club will go out and buy some unnecessary £50m rotation option in the summer and he will leave.

We have been linked with Saul from Atletico, who would cost around £70m and interestingly, Saul is following City on Instagram as well.

Could be the end for Foden here.

To be honest I don’t think he has taken the chances he has had this season and been average when he has played. He was actually performing better last season for me. Only playing now and again can’t be helping but when he gets a chance, he has to take it.

I’m having said that, Pep has been regularly playing out of form players all season so not sure why Foden doesn’t get more opportunity.

He played well in his 2 Premier League starts (both played out of position) and 2 CL starts (red card aside) so I’m not sure how you can say he hasn’t taken his chances. When was the last time he actually started in his preferred midfield position?

Bar the game against Fulham, where he has being played out of position, he's been excellent when given a rare opportunity. 3 goals and 6 assists in 900 minutes is a great return for a 19 year, not to mention the much needed energy he brings to this side that others don't.

He can go 2-3 weeks without playing, so he has no chance at being able to build some consistency in the side and as soon as he does get a run of games, proves himself, performs, he's then out of the team for a spell in the place of Silva who doesn't have the legs to start anymore.

I'd wait until summer and then as soon as we put in a bid for a midfielder, hand a transfer request in.

Maybe I'm just being hopeful but there's still the slither of a chance that we plan to use him as a first team regular and are just preparing him for it really badly.
