#47 | Phil Foden - 2019/20 Performances

Bar the game against Fulham, where he has being played out of position, he's been excellent when given a rare opportunity. 3 goals and 6 assists in 900 minutes in football is a great return for a 19 year, not to mention the much needed energy he brings to this side that others don't.

He can go 2-3 weeks without playing, so he has no chance at being able to build some consistency in the side and as soon as he does get a run of games, proves himself, performs, he's then out of the team for a spell in the place of Silva who doesn't have the legs to start anymore.

Seems odd that he isn’t playing more then given that. Pep played him in that absolutely key Spurs match last season but this year seems reluctant to do so in any big game. Not playing against United in either of the two legs for example shows a lack of trust so he must be doing things in training or games that Pep doesn’t like.

To be honest I don’t think he has taken the chances he has had this season and been average when he has played. He was actually performing better last season for me. Only playing now and again can’t be helping but when he gets a chance, he has to take it.

I’m having said that, Pep has been regularly playing out of form players all season so not sure why Foden doesn’t get more opportunity.

Every time he plays well eg. Zagreb home and Arsenal away he gets dropped for the next meaningful game. Can't be easy for him and it I think it has had an impact on his performances.

I really don't think Phil Foden will reach his full potential here. I think we'll waste his most formative years (17 - 20) playing him in bit roles as he stagnates. So for his own good, I think the time has come for him to leave. Not on loan, but permanently. City can put in a 50 million buyback clause if they want. But if I were Foden, come summer I'm asking to be sold.

People keep saying loan him out. No, no, no, if I were Phil, I'm demanding to be sold. Loans are how talented young kids get their careers ruined.

Again I'll repeat, Phil Foden was better than Sancho 20 months ago. Today one is a top 10 player in Germany and Phil is still a kid who can't be trusted with cup games.

It's time to do what Kev did at Chelsea and Sancho here if he still has hopes of maximizing his potential, it's time to take your career into your own hand. There are kids who couldn't touch Phil 2 years ago who are all passing him left and right. I know it would hurt as a City fan, but for the sake of the kid, it's time to go. And not on loan. Permanently!

Unless Pep says the starting 8 position is yours to lose next year ( which I can guarantee you it isn't) I m advising Phil to step out of the shadow.

That's just me.
Which players are passing Phil left and right that couldn’t touch him 2 years ago? Do you mean City players? Or players in his position at other clubs?

There's some massive delusion from some in this thread if anyone thinks Phil's going to be happy with his situation purely because he's a City fan. He's been patient for two seasons now, and that patience hasn't really got him anywhere.

He's a footballer first and foremost, and he's not playing football at the moment. He's meant to be Silva's replacement next season and as things stand, Pep can't trust him with more than 250 league minutes and cup games where there is actually more at stake.

If things don't improve, the club will go out and buy some unnecessary £50m rotation option in the summer and he will leave.
I don’t think we’ll buy in Foden’s position. We’ll buy a winger and Bernardo will be exclusively used centrally. Pep has said we won’t buy in Phil’s position which makes it sound promising, but what he fails to mention is that shifting Bernardo in there has essentially the same impact on Phil as signing a new midfielder would.

Other then maybe Sheffield Wednesday I can’t actually see when he will play again now.

he should have played every league cup game, but he wasn’t trusted. Even against united who are out of form and we were 3-1 up.

he isn’t playing any football. And he needs to leave for own his sake. There is no way pep will just start him next year as silvas replacement.

the leagues over and we will finish in the top four and he still doesn’t play him. I can see Bernardo being moved to the middle, which basically means the bench.

we are wasting such a talented player out of fear. I don’t think it’s too dramatic to say if he doesn’t make it no youth player at city will.

Maybe he’s talking about not signing another substitute

Not really, Bernardo, Silva and KDB, have shared two midfield berths with cameos from Foden. If we don’t buy then it will be Bernardo , KDB and Foden so while he’ll be third in the pecking order the natural rotation will give him plenty of chances to start and kick on.

he wouldn’t be playing just because he’s from Stockport. He’s be playing because he’s good enough and has more then enough talent to be in our side.

based on what your saying no young player will ever play for us. He’s not going to be as good right now as De Bruyne is he. What should he do, wait until he’s 27 and then he might be??

We have to have faith in him and give him the games to become the next David Silva. Otherwise how will he ever be good enough , sitting on the bench.

the fear of playing young players is bizarre and it’s just more excuses. Even when Gundogan and silva are so out of formm
It’s not about him being young. He’s just not that good yet. He doesn’t really unlock any doors when on the pitch. He’s quite tidy, is a goal threat himself, but looks well short of being a goal provider in this team yet.
