The first time passes were a thing of beauty, not just the goal involvements either. Time after time the ball was being played into him when surrounded by two / three players and he was just popping the pass out with ease. There isn’t another player in that squad who can do what our Phil can do. Involved in 5 of the last 6 goals.
He was the only player in the early frustrating moments of the game who was really playing between the lines properly and patiently as Pep has taught him. He's played that game a million times where you have to figure out the defensive shape, probe and prod the back line to see where the weaknesses are, and so on.

Credit where credit is due to Jonathan Liew (don't agree with everything in this article but he has nailed certain aspects re. Phil)

Decent article that. A combination of Pep and the management teams constant demand that he keep his feet on the ground + his style of play being so smart and selfless + a bit of an anti-City bias in the press means that it has sort of gone unstated that a Stockport lad in his early 20s is regularly playing with and at the highest level of club football and is often the best player on the pitch.

The biggest compliment you can give him is that he could play in any club or International side in the world and not look one bit out of place.

Said this the other day. He's sat on the bench for England but starts every game for any team left in the world cup.

Will be one of the most if not the most decorated footballer of all time when he hangs them up. Will be club captain within a couple of seasons.

I’ve seen a few on the site saying ‘Phil is a winger so why should he be in the middle’. Not sure how long they’ve watched or known about Foden but he is a CM/AM that’s been tasked to play on the wing for so long. For the most past, he’s done a great job.

However, I still believe he’ll make the move to the middle. If Kev is a high risk player, Phil can be one when Kev isn’t the mainstay in future. Lad needs to be on the ball to affect things.

Nonetheless, when he’s on the pitch, he’s exciting to watch.

Got a lot of praise for his performance on the weekend, one more big game performance vs France might be his announcement to the world that he’s gone from wunderkind to world class.

You feel like he needs a 'moment' for England, whether that be a wonder solo goal or big winning goal.

Definitely has it in him.
