Which is ridiculous based on his talent and numbers. He should be in for most of our games as automatic choice.
I agree. He would be for most clubs but Pep has to appease certain players with squad rotation and Phil's form is suffering being in and out of the side and shoehorned into various positions. I don't think Pep knows his best position yet. I think it'll transpire to be centre midfield.

His season hasn't really caught fire so far. Hatrick vs the Rags apart we've seen him treading water for most of the rest of it. Still, when he does find top gear...watch out !

Foden has already elevated himself to a 10+ goals per season Premier League Midfielder, and with strikes in the CL Semi Final and the World Cup, plus a hat trick in the Manchester derby, there isn't much higher he can go in terms of personal achievement. I certainly expect him to be the first homegrown player to score 100 goals for City since Neil Young (unless I've forgotten somebody)

However, I don't recall many outstanding games, and in truth, his goals have often overshadowed a fairly anonymous performance, whereas Grealish was almost the opposite at Elland Road the other night.

Perhaps he'll slowly evolve into a Gundogan type player, because otherwise, we might be having the same debate in 5 years.

He was in and out of form before the world cup though.
The whole team bar Stones Rodri and Bernardo have been in-and-out of form this season.

We haven’t got going as a team at all this season. We’ve not put in two good performances in the league in a row to date yet.

We’ve already dropped 10 points in just 15 games and we’ve had the easiest set of fixtures of any team to this point and have a much more difficult 2023 ahead.

It's a weird one with Phil. Even though he's popped up with some important goals, I actually think his general play has gone backwards this season. He just doesn't look as sharp as previous seasons to me.
I’ve no concerns on him long term as i don’t think we’ll see the very best of him until he plays as a number 8 in a couple of years. When he moved to the left a couple of years ago i wasn’t convinced he’d be quick enough to go on the outside of players(despite being more than quick enough with his little burst of pace to be brilliant centrally). Then out of what seemed like nowhere but transpired to be a sprint coach he looked miles quicker and was able to leave fullbacks for dead on the outside. This season he seems to have lost a yard to me. Although it does look like he’s been told to not run at players as much as demonstrated at Anfield against Milner. Palmer who has far less pace than Foden showed how easy it now is to fly past Milner.
