Rodri
Bellingham Foden

thats our starting midfield in 2 or three seasons, perfectly balanced

young players form dips up and down until their mid twenties

Phil is learning his craft from the wing just like Dave did when he first came here

I think he grew in to the match, after a less impressive first 30 minutes or so, showing more confidence and energy (which he had at the WC). His goal was far more than a “tap in” as described by the likes of the Guardian and Sky, and was very much a “Foden goal” based on movement and sniffing out opportunity.

Hope this sees him play more alongside Haaland and Mahrez/Alvarez in the league.

100% improvement from Phil today , he looked hungry and much more involved and took his goal well and won a penalty , he looks more at home in the middle of the park , still think he needs to braver on the ball at times and take the oppostion on , but a solid game from him today

His goal reminded me of the one Sergio got against either Spurs or Everton, i cant remember which team, in 2013 I think, where he guides it into the bottom corner. I thought Phil's finish was superb. He got a lot better after that. Shows you that confidence is everything.

As previous comments say he took his goal well but also looked slightly lost in there at times. Didn't offer enough to receive the ball which is surprising as he is normally always calling for it, work to do but still confident that's where he will play his best football.

Love the guy to bits in any event!
I’ve never been massively impressed with him in midfield compared to in the wide forward areas. He’s hardly played there as a senior player and it shows. But give him a run of games and he’ll be great as I think he’s got the skill and ability.

He needs a run of games in his legs wherever he plays. He’s just rusty at the moment.

I think that is a fair assessment.
Foden wen't more inside later in the half, then so did Palmer with Foden almost central, leaving it for Gomez to go outside, it was how we improved into the game for me, especially after the first goal, when Pep had a team "meeting" before they kicked off again.

Yes. Chelsea set up a very narrow defending structure. Gomez was initially inverted but then went outside. Bernado drop deep. Thus we attacked Chelsea wide area and they could not cope.
