He has done an excellent job for us on the left wing. Just not recently.
It seems that Pep has decided that he wants Phil and Jack to keep the ball more and not to take any risks that, Phil in particularly , does normally, let's hope Pep takes the handbrake off in the not so distant future as we have stopped scoring and blowing teams away like we used to. He probably will, he has done in the past.

Lovely finish for his goal, did well to win the penalty, and was involved in a good pressing performance.

Didn't see enough of the ball, though, or dictate play in the way we need our midfielders to.

Midfield may be his preferred position but it's a long time since he played there and he has work to do if he wants to stake his claim on playing there more often.

Centrally is definitely where you'll see Phil's best qualities but whether the team would function as well with him there I'm not sure. I can kind of see why Pep has him predominantly on the wing because the game tends to pass him by on the few occasions I've seen him play in midfield. Having said that, he still has time to learn and is only going to get better at the position if he's given more opportunities to play there.

Unfortunately for him we currently have three of the best midfielders in world football but maybe next season if Bernardo and possibly Gundogan aren't here then Foden will get more of a chance there.

As previous comments say he took his goal well but also looked slightly lost in there at times. Didn't offer enough to receive the ball which is surprising as he is normally always calling for it, work to do but still confident that's where he will play his best football.

Love the guy to bits in any event!

True but I think that a midfielder is more difficult to break into a system. You have to build the chemistry and let the teammates get used to your habits. I would love to see Jack and Phil to have more trials in the midfield.

Foden is more a second striker than a midfielder to me in this match. Perhaps it is because Chelsea cannot apply any real pressure on us. It is a similar role KDB played and I think Foden is better as a second striker because he entered the box more and caused chaos inside.

Thought he played well, you cannot expect him to be kdb the first chance he gets to play centrally.

his current best position is on the wing but his future is central, it just won't be a weekly thing until kdb is done here but happy to see Pep give him a game in there in his absence, no reason why he cannot start playing in there more often when kdb isn't on the pitch, we need the extra option in there and the more he gets to play it the better he will be.

Has to play against united, he tore them apart last time and we know it means as much to him as it does us.
