Look back over the past year. His goal today went straight at the keeper after missing a great chance earlier. He needs to improve his output from the left hand side, Sane was phenomenal at those far corner strikes and Foden seems to drag/scoff those shots.
His finishing was really good when he first broke into the first team possibly due to not feeling as much pressure but I agree that he seems to have regressed a bit in that department.

He should have squared it in hindsight but if you watch the whole sequence, kdb shot, it was fortunate to fall to Foden, he wasn't expecting it and I don't think he's had a chance to have a look. He's just taken a snapshot from a fortuitous ball which was probably the right thing to do in that split second. The instinct to know Haaland will be there isn't there yet, that will come. No problem with that today, scored was a real live wire buzzing around, Pep just has to stop moving him around, play him, kdb and Haaland in their best positions and fit the rest around them.
It's a good point you make. The more they play together the more this pass will become second nature.

decisions made in miliseconds is why coaches are there for. To drill their squads so they become automatic, Haaland is a bit of a strange body still, its normal. Even Pep mentioned it today after he told you all that nothing was going to change on citys play to accomodate Haaland. Of course it will, it would be idiotic not to do it, but it takes time

Yep, despite some media experts hanging Haaland out to dry already you can see from his positioning that we just need to adapt to each other. Foden and others will learn as will Haaland.

Without Haaland the other players don't get the chances we created at will that first half; I'm very happy.

Weirdly his goal was actually a worse finish than the one the keeper saved - without the deflection I think the keeper would have gathered it easy. Needs to work hard on his finishing if he wants to get 15-20 league goal per season.

He should have passed it but I agree. Also has Phil not earned the right to take that shot? Imo he has.
Nobody earns the right to take that shot, it has to be passed 100% of the time in that situation.

Even a striker like Agüero passed to a player in a better position when he could have scored himself (think Liverpool at home in the 5-0).

Last week people were moaning in the ground that Gundogan tried to
square it to Haaland in almost identical position.
I’ve been at the Etihad loads of times to here groans and two Silva’s, Gundogan etc squaring it there.

Should pass it there, but he’s not. Hardly a droppable offender.
That’s because David Silva used to pass in situations like this

Unbelievably, he passed to Gundogan there^ haha

Foden had to pass that yesterday, but it’s something he’ll learn from.

This all day long. Pep doesn't sub players who make one off mistakes.
He took Henry off for moving into the wrong area of the pitch once against Valencia. He’d scored, might even have got a brace and was looking for his hat trick, went looking for the ball in an area of the pitch that Pep didn’t want him in and Pep subbed him on the spot.

Pep also subbed Sterling straight after that open net miss at Burnley.

I actually think it’s a good thing if Pep did substitute Foden for that yesterday. Good for everyone in the squad and good for Foden n’all.
