noun: oxymoron; plural noun: oxymorons
a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (e.g. faith unfaithful kept him falsely true ).

Southgate came out last night and said with a straight face Phil is not strong enough to play in the MF, or something like that as a reason why he was banished to this nether-position on the right. Yes Einstein, stick a left foot non-winger to that position and then bury him after the game with some stupid comment. To say that about a player who's been playing for Pep's team and who clocked 20+ appearances just in PL for the past three seasons is a proof of his ineptitude. English (and the bunch of 'back-three' managers) just don't know what to do with the players like Foden, he was going through the same shit in U21 team. He'll be like Scholes, totally irrelevant for England.

When did SG say it? Perhaps I missed the interview. Just curious.

The media narrative would have made more sense if the score had been 0-2 when Mount and Saka replaced Foden and Sterling. However, in true Colin Bell-Bobby Charlton-1970 style, they've already twisted the truth and forgotten that it was actually 0-1 from a penalty that came against the run of play, and that England had been marginally the better team in the First Half.

However, if Foden plays on Sunday I guarantee that regardless of the eventual outcome, he'll touch the ball more times in the first 15 minutes than he did for his whole performance last night.

His first touch spoke volumes, resulting from a wild clearance from Pope that Kane somehow prevented from going out of play by blindly kicking the ball over his own head, and in the general direction of Foden's forehead with a 6ft German defender about to smash him.

Rice had a decent game, but on more than one occasion, he charged down a blind alley, and lost possession when it was easier to play a simple pass inside to Foden.

Sadly, he just can't get into the game to assert any authority, and England have simply got too many players of limited ability to make any difference.

However, he's already proved himself as a 10-12 goal per season Premier League/Champions League midfielder, and in the overall scheme of things, that's all that really concerns me.

Anti-city as it always is.

No one talked about Sterling also been replaced by Mount at the same time. It is a big difference because finally England players stopped feeding Sterling the ball and as the result, we stopped losing the ball in 100 stupid ways.

When Sterling was on the pitch, as his experience and role stood, the other players always past to him and he just lost it so many times... According sofascore he had 39 touches on that night and lost it 24 times! Yes may be he lost the ball because he made some shots but it was way too many and too frequent. And he rarely pressed or tried to win the ball back after losing it.

The other players (except Kane) just ran up and down mopping up and were so exhausted. I don't think Harry Maguire is a good defender. But what would you expect from a big CB after running around and under pressure without a minute of settled possession for 1 hour?

After the game some reviewers said how deadly Sterling's run were. LOL. The German side said they did not have any pressure in the first half. I would rather to see a less "deadly" Saka or Grealish holds and carries the ball in a safer way and pass it around rather than watching Sterling running and losing it every time. Knowing it is very little chance he can score anything.

Fantastic first half by Foden. He was best on ground in that half. Worked his bollocks off.

Best player on the pitch in the best half of football I've seen us play for a decade

I think he took a step backwards last year but he's flying forward now
