He did say in an interview at the start of the season that he wants to get his numbers up, some players look at stats maybe foden has. Maybe that's why he's shooting more. Stats are becoming more and more relevant with players. Especially with the English players. Grealish has talked about stats as well, goals and assists etc

Sure, though I posted this image a few pages back which is a lot closer to the ball being released, where the defender shows (IMO) that he could have gotten his foot to it if Foden had to wrap his boot around and pull it back, which is a slower action cos it requires a softer touch. Defender hasn't committed in that screenshot you shared, so he looks further away than he is.

guess none of us can fully prove it either way. Personally maintain that it isnt a big deal at all really and we're only all frustrated because of the bournemouth one and the fact we dropped points
In the scheme of things it isn’t as important as our system being overwhelmed for a good portion of the game. Think that’s what Pep will be pondering.

I absolutely agree! I think people are being intensely over the top over a borderline 'mistake'. I'm not actually trying to argue im right, just that it isn't as black and white as people make it out and I can see why Foden perhaps thought the pass wasnt on.

It was a much harder pass to play than it looks there.

God there is so many cry babies, we didn’t lose because Foden didn’t pass, Pope made 7 saves along with Haaland hitting the post, for context Ederson has only made 4 saves in 3 games.

can I also highlight the fact that last weekend when he didn’t pass to Haaland we actually won!

He's no Messi and never will be, along with 99.9% of players.

Quite harsh comparing them.

I was hoping he would be David Silva's replacement but I don't think that will happen.

A motm performance should be a good start, he's not been the standout player in a long time.
Really he’s been Leroy’s replacement and is comparable. I’m just disappointed that despite the obvious physical development he has made he hasn’t accelerated in numbers and consistency from where he was 2 years ago. He perhaps could have been as guaranteed a starting place as De Bruyne and Rodri by now and he isn’t. just another forward to rotate.

Should we compare him to messi?

Speed - yes
Dribbling - yes
Wrong foot - maybe not
Shooting ability - yes
Skills - yes

Pep said he was as talented and even tried to play him in the false 9 at a similar age.

i’m a strong beleiver that if the shot is on you take it as so much can go wrong trying to engineer a pass to a better placed player - interception, you can easily overhit the pass running at spew, hit the pass in the wrong direction, scuff it or someone else appears to block haaland etc……down on the pitch they cannot see everything as easily or calmly as you do

When Foden plays on the left wing, he likes to make those good run in behind. Halaand likes to make those run in behind as well. Then this kind of situation will happen very often. Pep needs to sort it out. Let's say pass before we are 2 goals up?

that is an easy pass for a professional footballer. if Foden can't make that he has no business playing for city.
Of course he can make the pass. Does the defender block it is the question and I think he has a good chance of blocking it so in the split second Foden probably thought the shot was the better chance of success. I dont have an issue with the one yesterday. The one against Bournemouth was bad

Sorry you're comparing Foden's shooting ability to a player who once scored 73 goals in a season?

Were only three games into tje season, Foden has started two, so very early days to judge him so far.

In an ideal world he would have squared the ball but Im sure it would not be that great an issue if the person missing out on the tap in was a Jesus or Sterling, instead of Haaland who everyone is so desperate to succeed.

Like all players Foden will have a few peaks and troughs but he would always be in my side for his dynamism, width and pace he gives the side, in addition to his technical ability. Still very young and still on a learning curve.

He's been poor yes, but at least in part it feels worse than it is because fans and the media in this country have put him on a pedestal. Remember when people said he was in the same bracket as Haaland as Mbappe? And how on earth did he win that Young Player of the Year award last season when he spent half of it on the bench? We're doing exactly what we were worried about- overhyping the young English talent. And because our expectations are sky high, even an average performance feels like a disappointing one.

Loads of people chatting shit about Phil on here. We're lucky to have him. He would walk into any other PL team.

We should be more concerned about whether he gets into our team, and if I'm honest, his league appearance numbers over the last two seasons have been prohibitive.

He played 50 games in 20/21 & 45 in 21/22 (starting 36 each season) how is that prohibitive?

Except that isn't the frame where the ball leaves his foot. Foden's walloped that, so imagine that backwards, slower and towards Haaland. It absolutely is likely to get cut out. Not sure why so many are refusing to see this...

It's completely obvious to me how many posters have never played football when they think it's so easy for Foden to pass in this action.
