He becomes our star player if Pep comes to his senses and starts him in the 10 every game
Tbh the only way to do that is to not play KDB. We defend in a 442 and Phil can’t defend next to Rodri as of yet. So when Kev comes back in, Phil plays on the right again. Sorry to break it to everyone but this is what is going to happen.

It doesn’t have to, we used to play KDB and David Silva, with a single pivot, no reason we can’t again with Foden.

Pep is a far more cautious/pragmatic manager than he was back then. I don’t see it happening until Foden learns to defend next to Rodri. Tbh Pep did say as much a few months back or whenever it was, that the ultimate aim with Phil is for him to play DEEPER. And I’m certain what he means by that is off the ball next to Rodri.

Maybe you are right, but I guess Pep may play both Foden and KDB in midfield against poor/average teams and low blocks. We'll be 2 goals up before half-time.

I think that at Anfield and the big CL games, Foden is less likely to play in midfield, but it's not guaranteed, for Pep loves to use Bernardo on the right...

Phil has been extraordinary all season long. I mean, the guy gets MOTM 3/4 times he plays this season. Giving him a CM role has been a revelation. Imagine the KDB, Rodri, and Foden midfield...

He is definitely Southgate's no.1.

No.1 sub that is.
I don't usually defend Southgate but he does have some tough decisions to make. He's got Bellingham, Foden, AND Maddison who all more or less want to play the same position. The LW is the most open position, but it's unfair to ask Phil to do a job over there when he hasn't played there in ages. Although I have little doubt he would do a job simply because of his talent.

118 goals and assists in 246 first team appearances, basically 1 in 2, the next 10 years are gunna be the Foden years!

But even Gundogan didn’t play next to Rodri, yes he was slightly deeper than Silva but he was’t a second pivot he got into the box and around the attacking third. When Pep says deeper think he probably means more Gundagan than as deep as Rodri.
Ideally for Pep he has a fit Stones and he’s the one that steps up next to Rodri.

I remember after the Villa game on this thread Foden was getting criticism and I said he’s the least of our worries at the minute.

Our best player this season and in line for player of the year so far in the league i’d imagine
