He has to change the way he usually plays.

In this England team he doesn't have the players capable of finding him.

So when he's just receiving the ball and then immediately laying it off, he then doesn't get it back and goes minutes without seeing the ball again.

I got the impression that Foden was trying to get us to move the ball quicker.
He mostly only took one or two touches before passing the ball off.
England have been guilty of playing far too slowly so far,and Foden has been trying to inject a bit of quicker ball movement.

Bellingham,Saka and Mainoo want to carry the ball more so he's sort of had to adapt to that and try and link play up.
If those three players get their heads up a bit more and make slightly better passing choices when we're in good positions,he'd have more space to affect the game better.

That's the point. Mainoo from a deep role was pushing the attack, basically doing what Phil should be doing

Said this since before the tournament. To get the best out of Phil we really need Jack and also maybe Rico in the side. As many players on the same wavelength as possible. Some of this lot aren't even in the same ocean. It's not gonna change now though.

This said, I think he did ok yesterday. Want to see him as an 8, he did drop deeper and got more touches as a result. He's the only one who can really knit this side together, but it means he won't really get on the end of things as much.

Need to forget 'Stockport Iniesta' for now, and be more 'Stockport Xavi'.
