Thing is if we do sign someone for big money who is the creative midfielder we so badly miss without Kev being the superstar he was for years. Then Foden only has one position he can realistically get in to the team and that is on the right. As you wouldn’t play him centrally then as he no longer looks physically capable of doing the graft that would be required in there alongside said creative player.

Yeah, he becomes that generation's Bernardo, never fully nailing down a central role. No shame in that whatsoever, Bernie is one of my favourite players ever. But it's not quite what I hoped for our Phil. We'll see!

Someone here said he has a more serious health issue. Which seems right as he has been playing like he is at 50 %.

I hope he get it sorted, chronic, non sport health issues are not to be dismissed.

I think you nailed it in your last sentence. Nothing against Phil but he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer imo.

This is a ridiculous thing to say? He has always seemed to me quite a wise lad, having a fairly extraordinary career at very young age.

That seemed to be a major turning point, but he's since reverted to his current barren spell where he's not even missing chances.

That's got to be more than just injury or illness. There must be something more tactical or linked to other personnel, perhaps making the same runs or simply passing to somebody else when Foden is the obvious option

Poster's on Bluemoon need to moan and have scapegoat. I think all City players at one time or another, hve had some sort of abuse on here, irrespective of who they are and how well they have done in the past. It's all very kneejerk. You only have to go to the Pep thread to prove my theory.

He got into positions and finished well. He was still bang average in general play during all those games

Not disagreeing, and I've always considered him a bit too peripheral.

Got exposed during the euros but it was Southgate‘s fault apparently when Bellingham, Saka and Palmer outplayed him.

They all had about one decent 45 minutes each

I don’t think he believes a no10 needs to create chances for his forwards. He’s a new breed of no10s, the “Inzaghidona” you wait for your midfielders and forwards to create goal scoring chances for you. Majestic.

I'm just coming to terms with why I think he's just not a midfielder. He doesn't create for others and just has a go at goal himself.. sometimes from 30+ yards.

Yes we've won with him before but that seems more of an isolated case rather than everyday occurrence like KDB creativity.

Sadly a winger needs to beat his man and have an end product to our forwards but even that seems to be lacking at the moment.

I'll start off by saying that I think there's a bit of truth in that but that I also feel like Foden having a shit season has meant that many are totally overstating his supposed lack of creativity.

Not to mention, we need whoever plays behind Haaland to be more of a consistent goal threat than Kev because our wingers don't have anywhere near the prolificacy of the likes of Sterling, Mahrez and Sane; they're now primarily facilitators.

Grealish, Doku and Savinho will create chances for Haaland and others but fail to reach double digits each season unless they suddenly develop a lot more composure and better ball striking ability.

Phil was primed to be exactly what we needed him to be but his huge downturn in productivity after the Euros has, for me, been as big a reason as any for our thoroughly disappointing season.

What I don't get is why some people have totally lost faith in someone who is and absolutely incredible player, with the track record to prove it.

I haven't lost faith him in him like I have with Kovacic.

Never said we sell him or he sucks.. but maybe he's just not a midfielder but more of a forward/ winger.

My viewpoint is more of maybe Pep had a point all those years.. not trusting him in the middle.

Perhaps THE decision Phil Foden made 4 years ago...marks him down as wise........
And yep, I'll back Foden till the end too.He is a superbly talented footballer going through a bad patch. Any number of reasons for this...lack of Rodri and central midfield solidity,Managers tactics,his own ego.fatigue..who knows..but he will be back,as..
