5 Days in Italy, Where to go and why?

Yeah went to Pompei and walked up Vesuvius loved it
Similar option in Sicily where you can go to the top of the volcano Mount Etna and peer into the crater in the morning and by lunch time be on the beach in Taormina which is a lovely town/area as well. Don't think you can walk it though, how long does it take to walk to the top of Vesuvius?

You get a bus/minibus halfway then you walk took about 30 mins

Only thread I could find without starting a new one...Archaeologist me!

Heading to Bologna for 5 days on Friday - Does anyone have any must do's or restaurants, bars or experiences they have had there or around Bologna which they would recommend?

Italian motor tour - Looking for a trip to the Ferrari, Lambo, Maserati and Pagani factory/museums - Anyone been as you can mix and match I understand but seems a bit steep at Euro 300.00 for the day.

Thinking of popping down to San Marino by train but not sure on that as I think deep down just trying to add another country to the list ;-)
Seeing as you're in Bologna i recommend you spend a few hours in Ferrara as it's only 38 km away. The speciality dish there is Capperllacci which is pumpkin filled pasta in beef ragu sauce. Probably my favourite Italian dish. This place does it really well.

The most fantastic place. The food and drink is enough of a reason to visit before you even think about how many fantastic locations there are to visit.

If I had 5 days and a car I would do the Italian Lakes.

Otherwise, ditch the car and take a train to see some Venice, Verona, Pisa, Florence in some sort of combination. Venice is just unlike anywhere else on the planet. Rome is one of my favourite cities as well. And I loved Naples - Sorrento is a stunning escape if the city itself doesn't appeal. I'm off to Puglia this August to explore.

Thanks had Ferrara on a shortlist and will certainly try that as never had it before. Flying off to Krakow if you got anything on that one as well, after but that's for another thread :-)

Do they have a pizza express just in case I’m in need of an alibi ?

Another vote for Ferrara very chill place, depending when you go lots of students on bikes but mostly less annoying than the ones over here :-)

Also claims to have the oldest (wine) bar in the world, good but a bit pricey from what I can remember.

Good time of year for Florence, it's one of the great cities of the world imo but in high summer it's a nightmare.
