Yeah there were some moments of real class and there were a small number of times it all looked awkward. But he's not really a RB by trade so it was a thoroughly decent attempt.
Absolutely. I'm in no way knocking him, I know people on here (not you specifically) are fond of jumping on anything that isn't glowing praise it was a good performance and well worth trying out, it just wasn't a performance that would make me think Stones right back and Cancelo left back would be a better option than Cancelo right back and Zinchenko left back in a knockout game.

I think he’s so underrated, amongst our own fans. Brilliant on the ball, passing and defensively. He’s been great for a while now. I’d argue our best defender in our title winning season last year.

He's our best centre-back and I'm not sure entirely why Pep's faffing about with him, but feel confident by the business end of the season he'll be on the pitch when the trophies are won.

Struggling to think of another CB in the league/world who could put in these performances out of position. So professional and doing such a good job. It never gets old watching him make those runs.

Got to wonder what Pep's plan is, though. It's good to know John can fill in at RB when Kyle's unavailable, along with Cancelo's flexibility it gives us an extra option considering our relatively small squad.

But Stones is an incredible CB and I want to see him there more often. Doing the team a favour out of position now and then is one thing, but he needs minutes in his actual position too.

watch this, he wins an awful amount of header, compared to the player we signed he’s 10 times better.
love him now

I don't know what the stats say but he's absolutely incredible in the air. I only started noticing it a few seasons ago when we played Fulham in the cup and he made Mitrovic look like a child throughout the ninety minutes.

I agree with you but I think he's going to play second fiddle as long as we continue with a right footed left back and my guess is Pep goes with Ruben for his leadership qualities.

Played like an established rb tonight, very strong in the tackle, great distribution as ever. Unlucky not to score.

Our back 4 shifted a lot to let Cancelo attack, Stones was almost on the right of a back 3.

But he is so athletic that it’s no problem, he just treats the position as if he is a CB.

It’s kind of similar to what Pep makes Ake do when he goes LB, just interpret defensively and to your strengths.
