It's absolutely fascinating to me that he's more effective in attack than the majority of players we've used at full-back in the Pep era. Don't want it to be permanent, frankly I would like to see him starting at centre-back in every important game, but it speaks volumes about how good he is that he can easily switch to the mentality of an attacking player at will.

It's sort of a throwback to his Everton days. You forget how good he is going forwards because for City at CB he's very picky about breaking forwards, whereas tonight he had a lot more freedom to play.

You could make a solid argument for him being the most underrated player in England right now. He'd walk into every other side in the world and most of their fans don't even know it.

Quality footballers can play anywhere. John Stones is a quality footballer.

Imagine Maguire playing fullback, I'd say it would make him a laughing stock but he manages that from his natural position.

Having said that, it's not something I want to see more of, he's better in the middle and zinchenko is the better option. Nice to know he can fill in and be relied upon though.

While it is not preffered, i'm grateful many rival fans doesn't rate stones highly. Most of them think he is just another overhyped english player, a 3rd choice cb.

It will be more sweeter to prove them all wrong.

He's our best centre-back and I'm not sure entirely why Pep's faffing about with him, but feel confident by the business end of the season he'll be on the pitch when the trophies are won.

I can only think;

1. We are playing a right footed leftback regularly, so he wants a left footer at left CB as a standard.
2. Pep's trying to keep laporte happy after his discontent last year. Stones has fought for his place before and is clearly happy at the club so rotating stones is easier.

1 i can understand to an extent. If it's the latter, it's harsh to take advantage of the more contented player.
