It's absolutely fascinating to me that he's more effective in attack than the majority of players we've used at full-back in the Pep era. Don't want it to be permanent, frankly I would like to see him starting at centre-back in every important game, but it speaks volumes about how good he is that he can easily switch to the mentality of an attacking player at will.

Absolutely top player. I get the impression that he could play in any position if called upon.

It's sort of a throwback to his Everton days. Breaks the lines as well as anyone I've seen playing at the back. A solid defender and really ideal for Pep's system.
You could make a solid argument for him being the most underrated player in England right now. I thought he was great tonight. We play the ball out from the back much better with him in the team.

Quality footballers can play anywhere. John Stones is a quality footballer.
Imagine Maguire playing fullback, I'd say it would make him a laughing stock but he manages that from his natural position.
Having said that, it's not something I want to see more of, he's better in the middle and zinchenko is the better option. Nice to know he can fill in and be relied upon though.

While it is not preffered, i'm grateful many rival fans doesn't rate stones highly. Most of them think he is just another overhyped english player, a 3rd choice cb.

Although he has done well there I don't think it's something that should happen often
He's our best centre-back and I'm not sure entirely why Pep's faffing about with him, but feel confident by the business end of the season he'll be on the pitch when the trophies are won.
I can only think;
1. We are playing a right footed leftback regularly, so he wants a left footer at left CB as a standard.
2. Pep's trying to keep laporte happy after his discontent last year. Stones has fought for his place before and is clearly happy at the club so rotating stones is easier.
1 i can understand to an extent. If it's the latter, it's harsh to take advantage of the more contented player.
