Barring the terrible defending on Salahs' goal, Pep has to not fuck about with him.

It doesn't really matter to me if he plays left or right back, the difference is that Pep packed the middle with 4 midfielders forcing him (and Foden) to pretty much stay wide.

He is not a traditional wingback, he needs freedom to come inside, swap with his winger (real winger), and such.

Pep's system had a knock on effect by making many players worse (like also Foden), because of his need to get all 4 midfielders in.

You wouldn’t want him in the trenches with you.

He’s great going forward at home with 70% possession, amazing, one of the best in the world, but when the going gets tough he regularly shrivels up, ducks out of tackles or fucks up spectacularly.

We got to the CL final because Pep dropped him when the games got hard, and he wasn’t playing when we won at Anfield.

Bottom line he should never ever be last man on corners have him outside the opposition pen area where he can score a goal have Akanji back there!

Obviously a bad error on the goal but wouldn’t pin all the blame on him, was poor from the team to leave him 1 on 1 with Salah after a terrible free kick in an attacking position
His error for the goal is terrible but collectively we defended pretty poorly over the 90mins. They weren’t passing through us in nice pretty patterns, it was Wimbledon like and we have 3 big CBs who should have been dominating against tiny forwards. Meat and drink.
