He hasnt displayed great form for nearly 18 months.......When was the last time he was MOTM? or even a candidate?

Do you genuinely get excited when he's on the ball anymore? do think there is more chance of him creating than there is him fluffing his lines?

Try and be honest.
He is being rated on what he did in the past. I refuse to believe that anyone on here, who has even the tiniest amount of football knowledge, is watching our games and is sat there thinking 'Sterling is playing well'. Just no.

The WhoScored list of City players who have played more than 1000 mins (most to least) in the Prem this season:

Ederson
Dias
Rodri
Sterling
Cancelo
KDB
Gundogan
Mahrez
Silva
Stones
Walker
Jesus
Foden
Zin

Performance wise, over the course of the whole season, would anyone suggest he has been anything other than bottom 3 on this list? For me, a toss up between him and Mahrez for bottom. Quite odd considering he is one of only a few anyone would label world class. Sterling is being carried by his teammates most weeks, and the belief that only Neymar or Mbappe would be able to replace him is laughable. Foden could replace him and wouldn't cost us a penny. He might not bag the 30 goals that Sterling got last season, but it isn't last season.

You cant win this argument though, because look at the backing he gets on here despite being terrible. And it will only take a single goal and they will be like a pack of wolves. He scores tonight, and its "I told you so", "where are all the haters", "blah blah blah", like he has been ripping it up all season. You are better off leaving them to it.

If he played for someone else, and we were watching these same performances, while he had say an Arsenal or Spurs shirt on, how many on here would want us to sign him? Some on here watch players like Kane and Grealish crushing it most weeks, then come on here and say they aren't good enough, or wouldn't fit our system. They then watch Sterling fall over his own feet and rush on here to defend him and say he is world class. Crazy.

For the millionth time, you'll struggle to find anyone saying his performances have been great this season. Nobody says he's the best player in the squad. Nobody says that he doesn't have things he can improve on.

What you and that attention seeking hypocritical knobhead above me are doing is arguing in bad faith.

You move the goalposts, you pretend refuting certain criticisms is a staunch refusal to accept any criticism, you gish gallop and you deliberately ignore the positives for the sake of giving the impression that your argument has any real weight to it.

And for what? So that you can berate a guy who has contributed so much to the club you "support" and conducted himself in nothing other than a professional manner?

It's absolutely pathetic, to be quite honest. You've got nothing other to gain than point scoring against people who you have imagined disagree with every single thing you have to say about the player.

I (and I assume many others defending Sterling on this thread) are perfectly capable of criticising the guy.

Stop pretending that you and the rest are martyrs for you opinions when the real reason why your posts inspire so much contempt is because you try to get a rise out of people who don't agree with you.

I think it is to Sterling's credit that he is making the most of his ability which is surprisingly limited.

There is no doubt he has some great assets...his ball retention has improved, plus he has the knack of being in the right place for a chance, even if his finishing is erratic to say the least.

I think the downside to his game is his poor close control, poor finishing and performances, especially in high profile games such as Cup finals, Liverpool and United when he seems to buckle under the pressure.

I think on the whole he has been a good signing for us, however I would rather have Foden playing in his position if there has to be a choice between the two and I certainly think we can upgrade on him ........although I'm not sure Torres is that player yet.

Bernardo would probably have been in most people’s bottom 3 last season though. Gündy too, for a lot of people. Stones, Cancelo, even Rodri took a lot of flak from some quarters. Should we have sacked them all off last summer?

That's it then, time to close the thread. Only you have "even the tiniest amount of football knowledge," you are "the word". Looking forward to your book "Humility and Football Knowledge for the Ignorant" and the follow up tour entitled "Fuck off plebs I'm right"

If that were even remotely true, it worked a bloody treat didn’t it?

What you fail to realise, is that I actually judge players as I see it. There is no agenda, no personal vendettas etc. I spent 17/18 and 18/19 eulogising about Sterling, after spending the previous seasons wondering what the hell we had paid the best part of £50m for. I spent last season defending his lukewarm performances based on his goal return. As far as I was concerned, he had money in the bank from 17/18 and 18/19. This season, there are very few good performances, and a massive dip in the goal return. Should this not be spoken about on a City forum? Should we just all agree that he had a fantastic 2 seasons, and therefore bury our heads in the sand to what we are seeing right now?

For whatever reason, debating Sterling’s performances garner a response on here that very few other threads do. People seem to be able to have a reasonable debate re KDBs form and whether or not we are a better team without him. Jesus or Aguero...no real problems. Mention Sterling.....hell no, we can’t be having that. This is why I told “that attention seeking hypocritical knobhead” he was wasting his time. This thread does not allow for any criticisms and that’s why I listed all the players, so that people might actually stop and think that you know what, Sterling has been very poor in comparison to his teammates. Instead we just get this never-ending cycle of “he’s shit” no “he’s world class”.

No, of course not. But they all deserved flak at some point. If people want to come on here and defend every single player, no matter what, fair play to them. They probably have a lot lower blood pressure than I do. If I could ignore the poor performances, I would, rightly or wrongly, it’s not in my nature.
