Not to be that guy, but our attacks were aided by Southampton being very bad defensively and leaving huge gaps behind when they pressed.

If Sterling or Jesus had played things would have probably looked very similar. Sterling may have slowed play down occasionally but with his movement and speed he would have had a hatful of chances, and he probably would have even scored one of them too.

Not to discredit the attackers who played today. They all worked hard and did a fine job.

sterling played more mins than any other forward in the team I think he can use the rest
it's time for Foden's minutes now

Be honest? I literally gave you facts in the form of statistics and data, what's more honest than that?

You're conflating a fact with an opinion.

Putting stats to one side,as they very rarely paint the full picture, can you answer the questions i asked? and maybe even address his weaknesses.......rather than the usual response of dodging them or diverting the conversation to suit.

Cheers

More projecting. You're accusing me of dodging a question whilst doing the same. Ignore facts and stats all you want, but they happened making them literally true.

I said in my earlier post that Sterling isn't perfect. Nobody is. And I agree that stats don't paint the full picture, I've never once said Sterling is the greatest, bestest finisher and scores all his easy chances or doesn't frustrate. Far from it.

What I object to is the ludicrous arguments throughout this thread that

a. We can do better for less when he's proven time and time again to be the best numbers guy in our squad and

b. Replacing him with someone like Armand fucking Traore who is the complete opposite and hardly ever scores, unless it's against us.

Cheers.

He is being rated on what he did in the past. I refuse to believe that anyone on here, who has even the tiniest amount of football knowledge, is watching our games and is sat there thinking 'Sterling is playing well'. Just no.

The WhoScored list of City players who have played more than 1000 mins (most to least) in the Prem this season:

Ederson
Dias
Rodri
Sterling
Cancelo
KDB
Gundogan
Mahrez
Silva
Stones
Walker
Jesus
Foden
Zin

Performance wise, over the course of the whole season, would anyone suggest he has been anything other than bottom 3 on this list? For me, a toss up between him and Mahrez for bottom. Quite odd considering he is one of only a few anyone would label world class. Sterling is being carried by his teammates most weeks, and the belief that only Neymar or Mbappe would be able to replace him is laughable. Foden could replace him and wouldn't cost us a penny. He might not bag the 30 goals that Sterling got last season, but it isn't last season.

If you replace Sterling with Dr Bruyne in this post do you still have the same opinion?

Or is he allowed a period of poor form and Sterling isn't.

The only thing I can take from that post is that you think Sterling has no chance of getting back to the form that made him an integral part of the 198 point team.

It's not age or injuries which would cause a decline so I would like to hear your reasoning?

Why is your point a) ludicrous?

Respect your opinion but I think we could find someone cheaper.
And that's fine, everyone has opinions.

I'd be interested to hear any suggestions on who we could get that would churn out 198 goal involvements in 279 games for cheaper...

...we've already had Jack Harrison, Traore and Raphinia on that particularly silly bingo card.
