Sometimes a scuff does work out... But striking the ball properly certainly increases your chances further...

I'm one of sterling's biggest fans but if there's something to improve on it's technique.
Yeah, that’s fair comment. He’s never been the cleanest striker of a ball.

I've been a bit of a loss as to why he's attracted criticism in recent weeks, he's looked utterly devestating on and off to me... but I can say yesterday wasn't great. And despite that he very nearly got the winner. Best effort of the game at that point. So - despite the subs working excellently - I'm a little bit unsure if it's safe to say we improved because he went off. We were improving already at that point.

His performance against Liverpool away was what we all want Sterling to be about. Being direct, taking players on, making them commit fouls. Linking up well, getting goals he did everything. But the last few months after that game he looks a shadow of that player. Hard to point out the reason

I'd really like to see him on the right again. It's his best position. That could be the catalyst to see him regain form IMO, because he's clearly well out of it atm.

His form will return, he just needs a purple patch which will undoubtedly return.... I personally feel the different variables over the last few years which have seen us stumble in Europe are currently aligning, Raz is one of them along with Kev, if it clicks at the right time we will be hard to stop!

Something struck me in the England game.

Ok, his finishing was bad, but then again, we knew that about him.

But his dribbling, movement, choice of passes for the most part, and pace, were all leagues above everyone else on the pitch barring Mount. Ok, it's San Marino, but nonetheless nobody else was doing what he did.

I think sometimes we take for granted his ability. Take Foden for instance. His touch and control were mesmeric at times last night, far better than anyone else. But at City, both Bernardo and Mahrez can do that sort of stuff too. Maybe not everything as good as Foden, but some things maybe better than Foden. My point is the average level of player quality at City is superb, to the point where often Foden doesn't stand out anywhere near as bluntly as he would for England.

With Sterling, we're comparing him to absolutely brilliant players on a weekly basis. So when he's not on it he looks bad by comparison. It's the exact same problem Gundogan used to have with how he was assessed. But I think we need to appreciate that even an average Sterling is still a far superior player to most. Maybe he's not as good as De Bruyne, but I'd have Sterling in any team before I chose Jordan Henderson or Eric Dier.

This isn't me trying to excuse what could be considered poor form or whatnot. And to be honest I could have made a similar post in most player threads, it's just with Sterling being a bit maligned at the moment he's the most obvious example of my point. Which is that I think we should appreciate just how damn good so many of these City players are. And it should be understood that City almost exclusively go for genuine top class players. That's why it should be obvious that the likes of Ings or Jack Harrison (no offence) would never be on the radar. We don't do good, we do great. And so bringing it back to Sterling, I reiterate that his qualities should be more appreciated too.

ps I'm only including this just to avoid the purpose of this post being possibly misrepresented, but this post is not aimed at any poster or posters in particular. It's just a general observation based on what I saw last night, and in several other international games over the last years too.

Spot on and I’ll add, which I’ve been stating for a while, he potentially will hit peak form just at the right time for us, especially in Europe where he is frightening at the top of his game...
