Something struck me in the England game.

Ok, his finishing was bad, but then again, we knew that about him.

But his dribbling, movement, choice of passes for the most part, and pace, were all leagues above everyone else on the pitch barring Mount. Ok, it's San Marino, but nonetheless nobody else was doing what he did.

I think sometimes we take for granted his ability. Take Foden for instance. His touch and control were mesmeric at times last night, far better than anyone else. But at City, both Bernardo and Mahrez can do that sort of stuff too. Maybe not everything as good as Foden, but some things maybe better than Foden. My point is the average level of player quality at City is superb, to the point where often Foden doesn't stand out anywhere near as bluntly as he would for England.

With Sterling, we're comparing him to absolutely brilliant players on a weekly basis. So when he's not on it he looks bad by comparison. It's the exact same problem Gundogan used to have with how he was assessed. But I think we need to appreciate that even an average Sterling is still a far superior player to most. Maybe he's not as good as De Bruyne, but I'd have Sterling in any team before I chose Jordan Henderson or Eric Dier.

This isn't me trying to excuse what could be considered poor form or whatnot. And to be honest I could have made a similar post in most player threads, it's just with Sterling being a bit maligned at the moment he's the most obvious example of my point. Which is that I think we should appreciate just how damn good so many of these City players are. And it should be understood that City almost exclusively go for genuine top class players. That's why it should be obvious that the likes of Ings or Jack Harrison (no offence) would never be on the radar. We don't do good, we do great. And so bringing it back to Sterling, I reiterate that his qualities should be more appreciated too.

ps I'm only including this just to avoid the purpose of this post being possibly misrepresented, but this post is not aimed at any poster or posters in particular. It's just a general observation based on what I saw last night, and in several other international games over the last years too.

Great post this. Also, the reason we are noticing how poor finishing is, is that his football IQ and speed of movement is still getting him in goal scoring positions. His off the ball movement into dangerous positions is better than all the players in our squad that you mentioned, in fact I don’t know a player with better movement in today’s game.

His form will return, as he has far too many strings to his bow for it not to. He’s an honest player too, who always works hard.. so it will return.

He scored 30 goals last season and I’m pretty sure he went through a 2 month spell without a single goal? Correct me if I’m wrong.

People calling for him to be sold are stupid and it’s simple as that as far as I’m concerned. If he hits top form before the season ends I can’t see anyone stopping us in the champions league. I bet fullbacks absolutely shit themselves when Raheem’s running at them in full flow. I also think he’s a big game player when he’s on it and he doesn’t get near enough credit for that because people prefer to remember the odd open goal he misses. If Aguero was stood an inch further back against Spurs he would’ve had an iconic champions league quarter final hatrick that we’d still be talking about to this day. He was our best player that season as well and it was the best season in our history. He’ll silence the doubters again soon, as he has been doing his entire career

Do you expect him to hit top form before the seasons end?

What is stupid, are posters not able to accept a difference of opinion, and calling said posters, stupid, would you agree?

Only Sterling can decide if he’s going to play himself into form. We should all be backing him, just like every one of our players for this next month ahead.

You are like bigga on the biden thread , totally entrenched and relentless , whatever raz does you will not change your mind

To be fair Kaz , if Sterling re-discovers his very best form most of the forum will be absolutely delighted, @mossside blue included I think.

He isn't at his best atm whatever the reasons.

I think the press and so called commentators do enough Sterling slating. They wait for a slight mistake to crucify him. So I just look at him as a fantastic City player , who has games that sometimes can be frustrating for whatever reasons but on the whole he has been brilliant for us.

Expecting Sterling to be sold is stupid.

Given that he's English, still young, and scored tons of goals for us these last 5 years. So yeah... pretty stupid.
