Except his two best years came on the left. So he can play either side.
there are reasons for that. he was never expected to involve himself in the build up. he was exempt from that, his only role was to run in behind, assist the striker or have a tap in. now the role in the left wing has changed entirely because we don't have a striker and also we don't create from central areas with david silva. now anyone in the left wing is expected to involve in the buildup and actually create the goal-scoring chance instead of just getting on the end of things. This is also why Jack is better on the left wing in the current setup.

Well this is just entirely made up.

The 2 seasons he was on the left, 2018/19 and 2019/20 were the seasons he was most involved in the build up.

They are the 2 seasons in his career that he touched the ball most. He carried the ball furthest. He took the ball into the 18 yard box most. They're the 1st and 2nd best seasons for him creating shooting opportunities for other people.

Also the 1st and 2nd best seasons of his career for xG build up, and xG chain which measures how involved a player is in the build up to goals.

This is one of the things I'll never understand about the Sterling thread. Someone will say something completely made up to try and justify their latest opinion on why he's shit, I'll know it's not true based on memory, I'll look it up and see dozens of stats specifically made to measure it show it to be false, and yet I know no one will care about the truth, it's all about making up a new theory to claim he was never as good as he was.

I mean seriously the idea that Pep would "exempt" anyone from the build up is fantastical bullshit.

By far the best football we've ever played was Sterling on the left and Sané on the right. We've tried "control" on the wings before (just a fancy word for wingers who aren't good enough at scoring and assisting to be wingers) and it's never as good as when we used to just run at them and score a shitload.
Think you mean Sane on the left and Sterling on the right

Grealish is one of the most right footed players I’ve ever seen
Grealish is left footed ??
Why has nobody told him ? -)

That folks will teach me for only checking my assumptions with one, clearly unreliable, online source. It would appear that Grealish does indeed favour his right foot and I need to have a quiet word with myself on that front.

Considering we’ve never played Grealish on the right though - to my knowledge - I still don’t think it diminishes the point that:
The players we’ve bought haven’t all been so right-sided that we’ve been forced to play Sterling on the left.

We got rid of Nolito and Navas shortly after Sterling arrived so, if anything, that’s gone further towards clearing the way for him to make it his own, in the time he’s been here.

If the right wing is where he should be playing (and supposedly should have been all this time) he should be beating Mahrez and Jesus (only one of whom is a pigeon-hole right winger) to the position week in week out. Surely Pep might have picked up on that in the past 3 seasons.

Then there is flogging a dead horse with pep sometimes !

Raz has for some reason, for us , lost his spark on the left , that is where he cant get his legs to work , put him on the right
I’d back this experiment if and when:

a, Mahrez’s performances fall below Sterling’s current standards.

or

b, Sterling’s form picks up to the level of Mahrez’s and Foden/Grealish are back on the left ahead of him.

Sterling can’t just be given a go on the right, purely down to the fact that he isn’t as good as other players in his current position, and because someone can’t bare to see him out of the team.

He has to earn it- and if his current uptick in performances continue, and Mahrez has a stinker , then crack on let’s run the experiment - but that hasn’t happened yet.

Well Pep's played Sterling more times than any other player in his entire managerial career.

So what does that tell you?
And Pep in this season has used Sterling the least out of all wingers(until injuries happened).

What does that tell you?

I think Pep himself has told you:

Sterling has remarkable recovery that doesn’t seem to require the rest, and thus rotation, of most players.

That he had the longest summer? That after 5 years of never resting he finally needed a break (Pep literally said this on Friday)

You actually think Guardiola would play a subpar player 260 times because hes always fit.

Laughable.
