Clearly, you are binary on performances ie, good or bad.

There is a middle position in that a player plays OK ( neither particularly good or bad).

My particular view was that, he was OK, not worthy of either praise or criticism, so I had no reason to post

Doubt he will be given too many starts. I am sure many of us sigh when we see his name on the teamsheet due to the really poor performances.
