And the best part: his game doesn't depend at all on pace or any physical quality, so being 31 or 35 doesn't make as much of a difference.
So many players would take the easy route out on the basis of gametime. But I'm so pleased he extended his contract, was unfortunate with his ACL injury and took a bit to fully recover and find his rhythm, but boy did he. Easy to forget how flexible he is in the midfield too, he played as a DM for us in one of the toughest runs in Prem history, won 14 in a row. Last year change of role but he was superb again and ended up as our highest goalscorer, very rare profile to find.Remember when people thought he was crap? - seems like a different lifetime. So glad he stayed when he was not a first choice.
Totally agree, he's the actual David Silva replacement now. More or less his responsibility to control the tempo of our game in the middle. Doesn't rely on pace or physicality (even though I think he's not weak, can definitely handle the physical side quite well) but keeps it simple, very easy on the eye.And the best part: his game doesn't depend at all on pace or any physical quality, so being 31 or 35 doesn't make as much of a difference.
The posters who wrote him off a couple of years ago must be feeling pretty silly now.
He was magnificent today, ran the game, doing what he does best, keeping it simple. The very best midfielders in the world always have time on the ball, they also have the uncanny knack of keeping the ball, they also have the ability to find space to receive the ball, today Gundo reminded me of Busquets, he doesn't do anything particularly special, he just keeps the ball moving, what he has added to his game though is the Lampardesque ability to arrive late in the box, which gives him opportunities to score. He must be a dream to play with.
Gaz Barry did a similar job when we signed him in the Mancini era, he was the player who made us tick, nothing special, just keeping it simple.
Totally agree, as much as we love Gaz, I don't think he's close to Gundogan overall. It's like Gundo was just waiting for David to leave that spot to find his best, somewhat comparable to Bernardo waiting for De Bruyne's absence to show his best form !To be fair, I think it's important to note Gundog didn't have his best season in 19/20. However, everything after that has been sensational. I wouldn't even make the Barry comparison, I think Gundogan is firmly one of the very best in the world in his position. Everything has come together for him and it's brilliant to watch.
