I said at the time we were rumoured to be signing him he didn’t fit our profile of player, we signed Fernandinho at 28 but Kovacic is no where near that level.

There were plenty on here saying what a great signing he was and after a few games he didn’t look too bad.

The only good thing is hopefully Saudi teams will take him, Nunez and Phillips of us but I think Newcastle’s owners would tell any team in the Saudi League not to help us out.

We’ve made some great signings over the years but these three are nowhere near Gundo’s level, without him, a fit Johnny Stones, KDB, Rodri and Grealish we’re really missing these guys.

Did he touch ball??

Atleast Nunes did… but kicked it out off play in last minute…

Txiki et al, what have you done?

Allowed Gundogan to go without a proper fight and brought in a mediocre crock.

Can only hope he has a better 2nd half of season.

For me he'll go down as one of the worst signings we've made in years. Totally ineffective in and out of possession.

Watch his tracking back at 1-0 down when Luiz hits the post. It's utterly shameful.

There's a reason Chelsea were happy to let him go.
People told me in the pregame thread that we would be 'tighter' with him.

Since preseason versus Atletico, I've been seeing guys run past him in the midfield.

Stealing a living. No wonder Chelsea were happy to sell.
They were happy to sell. They told us we were getting fleeced. But again some comments here were like Chelsea fans know nothing they are dysfunctional side Kovacic is Rolls Royce ball carrier etc

They're not exactly doing any better considering they spent over £200m on the midfield.

Still think he'll be a good signing, but expecting more of a decent squad player.

However, I nearly launched my tele out the window when he had the chance to cross the ball with his left foot in the last few minutes, but turned and passed it back to Gvardiol.

The penchant against putting in a cross is getting to me.

Gundogan had a frustrated start like this too, but I hope Kova can turn it around as well.

Obviously a squad signing. But to be any use in that role, he’s got to be able to step in as a 6 for Rodri or as an 8 higher up the pitch. And I’m not sure he can really do either - yet, at least.

This thread is another example of people hastily pointing the finger at one or two players in particular instead of just giving it ten seconds and doing something else with their energy.

Kovacic was brilliant in his first handful of games and we were all in agreement that he was a worthy replacement for Gundogan, even if he wasn't expected to hit Gundo's heights for a bit yet.

Then he got injured, had a bit of a mare against Arsenal on an off day for the whole team, and has been injured again, playing the equivalent of one half of football in our last four games.

But for some reason he's getting more blame than anyone else, except for maybe Nunes and Gvardiol - two more lads who've only just arrived and are bedding in. This fanbase really doesn't add up sometimes.

In PL games Kovacic has started this season we're P7 W5 D0 L2. In PL games we've started with Kovacic and Rodri next to each other we've got a 100% record. It's obvious what makes us play our best football.
