82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Excellent player, so solid, so consistent and doesn't stop working. If he can improve his finishing then he could become a world class talent. He gets into lovely positions in and around the box, but doesn't seem particularly keen yet to take a shot on. The one he had across the keeper was at a good height for him, but a few months practicing and he could be a real asset for us finding pockets of space and getting goals.
Not to state the obvious, but he’s looking more and more like a young Ilkay Gundogan! That dart into the box for the Nunes cross was prime Gundo…except he didn’t score!

Quite right, although being pedantic he is looking like a young, older Gundo rather than the young version from Dortmund! Just needs to add a little composure in the box, and understand he has more time than he thinks.

If Rico becomes either version of Gundo, young or old, then I would be more than happy! We could probably do with that Dortmund deep lying playmaker more with Rodri out!

He’s going to have to work on his finishing. He makes so many clever runs he’s going to get a lot of chances so he’ll need to start taking them.

He's always looking for a pass as his first thought, which needs to change. It's a case of getting into those positions more regularly and appreciating he has more time than he thinks. Be aware of the space around him to know whether passing or shooting is the best option.

Anyone got any opinions on whether or not Lewis starts this weekend after his midweek minutes?

He should start, and should start every game for us. Walker has clearly lost a step. My thread history will show i'm a big walker defender (and i fear his extra curriculars will in someway impact what an enormous part of our greatest successes he was), but Rico, right now, is better. Also, he's phenomenal in the final third with his willingness to pass and composure (whereas walker is a place attacks go to die). Yes, he needs to improve his finishing, but we have a couple of other fellas who are alright at doing that. Right now, if not at right back, i'd play him in front of gundo in that 8 role if push came to shove.

With Rodri out, I think id prefer him or Bernie next to the DM (Kova or Gundogan), then go with a tall strong back 4 with Stones or Gvardiol coming into the centre.

Thats his future role, not RB.

We have too many players (and Rico is one of them) that look completely out of their depth in games where we don’t have full control. 70% possession and teams that can’t get out of their own half are meat and drink for Rico but once it gets stretched, like today, he looks like a kid playing men’s football.

Pep needs to get us back that level of control or Rico needs to be on the bench.
