82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Guardiola "fancies" Lewis as a UTILITY player. He loves players that can fit more than one mold. Akanji to RB or MF. Stones to RB or MF. Ake LB and MF. Gundogan anywhere across the middle forward and back. When he was here (and we/ I miss him) Alvarez AM and striker.

We all know this.

Lewis is not a suited RB, but he'll do... until he fucks up on a more regular basis, like last year, when he left us vulnerable on counter attacks.

As For MacAtee and Nunes, the ball's in their court.
I think he’s the best we have as a right back currently, possibly barring Akanji. Stones can do a job, but is too injury prone, sadly. I think all of our defenders leave us vulnerable on counter attacks. But this is also a symptom of how we play really.

I think Nunes will be gone as a makeweight in a deal as soon as we can move him on. MacAtee will also be sold at the end of the season unless the unthinkable happens.

Back to Rico though, I think he’s good enough to warrant a place in this team. If that’s as a utility player then so be it.

I like the lad & understand the scope he offers...but i seen him level with fulhams fullback yesterday and he didnt even offer a leg to try and prevent a well telegraphed intention to cross...it was almost micah richards stylee...another non flbk....spin it any way you want but that's a bit shit...what can a fullback be thinking when a players body shape and moving foot is in flight to centre a cross...theyre not picked in a team just to be level and get a ringside eyeball...offering no block is unforgivable.

He is currently the best RB at the club. So unless we are buying 2 new cracking RBs, o don't see how he is not a feature here.

Let me put it differently, if we can buy someone who can consistently bench him, then it will mean we have the best RB situation in the world.

He is that good of a fit for a Pep team, that you'd need an extraordinarily talented RB to bench him consistently.

Same usernames across countless threads spreading their belligerent bullshit. Doesn't matter if it's football, politics or anything else.

The players trust him, the manager loves him, the match going fans adore him and anyone with a bit of understanding of the sport can see how good he is.

But, for some of you, he's got a couple of weaknesses he needs to work on so that eclipses everything else and he's shit and the manager's wrong and everyone who thinks he's good is an idiot and a fanboy and really smelly and haha look at how stupid and smelly you all are.

Not as if we've been through this endlessly with you guys is it? But apparently it's not important that you've been shown up as dead wrong countless times. Grow the fuck up and get a hobby.

Shame some clowns think that Lewis is the answer at a position he's clearly limited at, but can play. Being "the best RB at the club" is absolute bullshit.

Based on that bullshit, Bernardo can play LB too, cos he did it in a pinch and we didn't lose. Or Walker in net, cos we didn't get hammered!

Lewis will, like last year, get found out if he plays RB on a regular basis. It's like some of you fanboys forget what happened, last season, and why he got benched for most of the season after about 10 games. He's 7 games in and we when get back from the break he'll start to to get leaned on and outmuscled when other teams make a plan for him.

Ironically, one of his better games was when Walker was RB and he played further up.

I've had my say and done with the convo.

It comes down to the balance of the side. We were all over the place against Fulham, the midfield still hasn't clicked and much like the start of every season we're leaving gaps all over the pitch for the opposition to slice through us. If Rico is isolated against someone like Traore he has no chance, and I don't think many, if any, full backs in the league could deal with him either.

I think he's been much better at right back this season. My thoughts prior to this season were that he'd have to play in midfield. But we're used to having a right back that deals with anyone with pace in Walker so comparing directly to him was a bit unfair on the kid. His defensive performance at Chelsea at right back was brilliant. He was continually spotting the danger, tracking runners and getting a foot in. All whilst being all over the pitch from an offensive perspective.

It's different people for different games. I think Pep expected us to be completely dominant and not leave ourselves so isolated. But a lot of our attacks were gung ho and left us open to the counter which put Rico in a bad position. Based on the footrace Walker had with Traore, he wouldn't have done any better.

Same as most player threads. Some people see what a player can do, others only see what they can’t do

Personally, I’d much rather look at what a player contributes rather to the team as a whole rather than what they don’t

I think reading the Ederson thread confirms this point about either seeing what they contribute not

He’s been brilliant so far this season & getting rinsed by Traore isn’t anything to be ashamed of

Top lad, top player :)

The guys a cracking little player with some great qualities but he a poor game on Sat, it happens. There may have been a bit of OTT reaction from a few posters but likewise a few who thought they were knights in shining armour came to fight his corner. The next couple of seasons will tell, let's hope it's an upward trajectory for him.

I rate Rico highly as he is superb technically and looks a very bright player who , in my opinion , is being asked to play out of his natural position. Long term can't see him being a right back and expect he will play centre midfield in front of the DM. He has the quality to do it and he gets into some great offensive positions when he has the freedom to do it - just needs to find his finishing boots. Doing a great job filling in but am more excited about him moving up the pitch over the next couple of seasons which i think he will do.
