82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Lots of bollocks here. He's a 19 year old kid trying to do the work of 2 men at once. Last week from his weaker side. Far from the biggest problem. Yes he has made mistakes in recent weeks but what the fuck do you expect? Been far better than some bigger more experienced names in our squad this season and he'll be learning loads at the moment. Anyone slagging Rico is a ****.

Unfortunately he's being over played due to the circumstance. He's still in potential mode, nowhere near the finished article but being made to take on the responsibility of the finished article. He hasn't shied away from this. His mentality is elite.

Hopefully we get the senior defenders back for the next match and Rico can continue to learn in a better environment with less pressure. He needs bench time and useful sub minutes to continue his education. He might make it with us, he might not, but the current predicament is doing him no favours.

Completely agree.

It’s time to call out every one of you fickle fans on this forum. Some of the patronising comments I have read are simply downright disgusting. You have all clearly forgotten that earlier in the season Rico was the standout player in quite a few games (see below). This is the reason he was called up as a full England international.

Rico is a 19 year old who has been asked to play right back in the best team in the world. At the end of last season he was combining beautifully with Oscar Bobb. The two of them seemed to have a sixth sense on the pitch together. At the beginning of this season he started off very well (see next paragraph).

In the Sparta Prague game he received 41 votes on this forum for man of the match. Against Tottenham in the Carabao he received 12 votes (4th best), against Slovan Bratislava he received 99 votes (second only to Doku), against West Ham he received 29 votes (3rd best), against Chelsea (first game of the season) 174 votes (second best), against Ipswich (second game of the season) 248 votes (player of the match), against Inter he received 46 votes (3rd best)

Need I go on?

Rico needs a rest. He needs to recharge his batteries. It's as simple as that.

Some of you clearly can't remember anything about the first half of the season, where Rico was clearly one of our best players game after game.

I know most don't like the facts to get in the way of a good old fashioned pile on.

I know it's a novel idea, but how about you actually back one of our academy stars, rather than tear him down?
Well said mate

I find it baffling that he gets so much stick at 19 years old. If people actually believe he’s the finished article & wont improve massively over the next 3-4 years, I’d ask how many players hit their prime at 19?

I really don’t see what Lewis brings us, other than off the bench when 3 up to just be a nuisance in midfield, he’s a headless chicken in defence and never in the right position. I’d sell him in the summer.
He's 19. You described his role perfectly, and it would be that right now if we had any defenders. He's getting a lot of stick for being thrown in the deep end when he's only just learned doggy paddle.

We lose four, people look around for scapegoats. Rico's a convenient one. One of the brightest prospects for the coming years. I believe he needs to find his true position on the pitch, and not drift between one and the other — but that's a short-term consideration. (I don't know the player on the planet who can be both a convincing full-back defensively, and a convincing midfielder. Oh, and get regularly into the box, just for good measure.)
It would be disgraceful if we lost him. Worse than losing Palmer. By a long way. I would be gutted.
