Palmer got tons of chances.. maybe not as many as he hoped but he got chances. His own injuries and lack of versatility got in the way.
There's 2 ways to get into a Pep team.. either be the best in the world at your position or be versatile enough to play multiple positions.
Cole is a 1 position player and there were better players ahead of him while he was here!

what like Nunes, Doku or Savino - none of which are world class or really versatile. Palmer is much better on the wing than both of them as well
You can’t expect young players to be instantly world class either. We need to think long term with player like Mcatee who has the potential to be a top player
