Silly comment. There's way too much attacking posters here if they have the temerity to not blindly agree such and such player is the best because they play for City. It's a forum for discussion and people have differing opinions shouldn't be lambasted for them.
And then you go on to ask why people are “fawning” over McAtee? What a stupid choice of wording but how revealing of your comprehension skills. Little wonder you get lambasted.

makes so much sense to loan him out until end of June. his game time will not improve if he stays with new arrivals and players back from injury. he is yet to start a PL game and wont start in CL given from now on all CL games are like finals for us. this with the biggest injury period we had in years and many badly out of form.

but still there is a chance he can become a decent squad player we would need to spend 40/60m from somewhere else to have in the squad. decent Bundesliga teams are after him, I bet they thinking two seasons there and they can sell him back to PL for 2x price unless flops completely.

Marmoush coming in will reduce game time a bit for others front of McAtee imo in line too.

Sounds like Pep may let him go. Not a ringing endorsement for him.
You may need to learn the game a little better.

Such a shame. I presume Salford was a shop window type of game and it won’t have done him any harm.

Will be gutted if it doesn’t work out but seems that’s the most likely scenario now. Bobb to take his place but with more game time I take it.

I'm torn on this one.

As you say though, it was perhaps a shop window and won't have done him much harm. Potentially other clubs would see the highlights and like what they saw, but I'd expect Pep would be looking at James's first half performance more and making any decisions based on that.

First half he was invisible. A start against a lower division team and Pep would have wanted him to impose himself in the game, but he disappeared. I remember thinking that happened on a number of occasions at Sheffield also - doesn't mean he's a bad player, but doesn't mean he's good enough to play regularly for the top team in the country either.

He finished his chances well and it was nice to see. However after coming on against Leicester he grabbed the game and made it his - I wanted to see more of that type of performance, but it didn't happen.

I’m not mate . He should stay with us as it’s clear he has talent and we will 100 percent regret this one and it will also have a negative effect on all our young kids watching and wondering why we sell them all . We are better than this .

McAtee played three positions at the weekend and was most effective when Guardiola put him in his favoured position: scoring three goals. Grealish looked similarly comfortable when back in his familiar beat.

Part of what you say there is a different argument, and I'm with you on that one.

I kind of think James will 'only' be good enough to be a useful squad player, but unless he's desperate to leave, then he'd be useful. But as you say, there's more to it long term than that.

I'm not overly convinced either of the young defenders we're after will be better than Callum Doyle could be, but there isn't going to be space for him here at the end of the season. It's disappointing.

Maybe fair - I'm not sure where he was supposed to be playing at the start of the match then? Though he was one of the two forward central midfielders, and that should suit him?

He was playing in a deeper role with Grealish operating ahead of him. We have to remember that the other midfielder was Gundogan, who now lacks physicality and the legs to chase, and that the defence only contained one recognised first-team defender, so it was very much a makeshift team and McAtee had to get back quickly. On that point, he's surprisingly quick and able to get back to cover from one box to the other, much more so than Foden or indeed Lewis. There were a couple of sloppy passes, to be sure, but others were guilty of that as well.

At this moment, I dont mind him doing a few sloppy passes, I just want him doing more passes and getting more touches - imposing himself on the game a bit more than he does.

It's a bit more 'strength of personality' to say that he should have the ball and belongs in the team. Though he did that against Leicester, but slipped back a bit against Salford. As you say though, possibly in part due to playing deeper.

Guardiola chose to give Grealish the forward role and freedom of the park, probably recognising that Salford would be open and that his ability to carry it forward would be more influential. McAtee is cuter around the box, especially when laying off and drifting into space. With Bobb, Foden, and McAtee, we have a wealth of talent and games for all. I just hope I'm not alone in seeing that.

If you look at him on 3 things, mobility getting back, ability on the ball and finishing he measures up quite well against most of the others..

Loaning him out is positive as it shows our confidence in bringing players in which we desperately need. We are paper thin as is so if that wasn't the case we wouldn't consider it. I hope it doesn't mean the end of him here full stop, I hope he proves himself on loan and comes back with confidence and fire in his belly, along with actual playing time.
