We fell for it in the Feyenoord game and have done so again. I'd bet good money that Pep will bollock him for that. You can expect that had Grealish been on the pitch instead he wouldn't have taken that on.
Having said that I do like McAtee and hope that we keep him around after learning a lesson from it.
If grealish was on the pitch he would probably try the same but hit it straight off a defender

Bit dense of him to take on the shot when we were dominating the ball at the end. This gave them a goal kick which led to Brentford's equaliser.
I know he wants to impress Pep but that was a rookie mistake.
Huh ? it was inside the box with no one near him, he had every right to take a shot in, it wasn't a good effort but he was only on for like 5 minutes, Pep is watching Savinho take a dozen shots every game to no avail so blaming McAtee for taking 1 shot is just absurd.

It wasn’t like there were only 30 seconds left. Any attacking goal scoring midfielder takes that on. Admittedly Grealish is the only one who might not have out of our midfielders because he’s got no left foot. Bet he would have on his right though. It had completely opened up and he should have scored. Not like they countered, they were bound to get forward again with a few minutes left. Just piss poor defending cost us again.

You’re having a laugh mate. Any player takes that shot on.

I’d have to see it again but it looked to me like Gundogan was almost in his way for the chance so probably had to aim more to the right than he wanted to
Correct. Gundogan was in front of him and basically blocking a half of the goal. He even jumped up, making it harder, which meant McAtee had to aim for the far side.

Simply got to score that chance. He's got as much time as he wants to pick his spot and it's not even on target. Really poor.

Those are the chances that make or break a young players career. That's the game winner right there, another telling contribution if he finishes it off and more ammunition to be pushing for minutes. as is, it's a costly miss and you're looking back thinking foden scores his hattrick there if he wasn't subbed off.

A poor finish but again it is down to the defence too. We had other chances earlier on to kill Brentford's momentum.

It's not easy when you come onto the pitch on the 87th minute ?
Also how many Premier League minutes has McAtee been on the pitch this season ?
Yes, he could have done better. But at least he had a shot. There are other City players, this season, who are not shooting.
We seem to have gone back to not taking risks (i.e. by passing teams to death) and wanting to score the perfect goal.
Opposing teams are no longer scared of City, are set up much better to defend, they are also attacking much quicker on the break.
Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford and Fulham are teams who are really hurting City this season and are playing far more exciting football...

Got to score at the end. Goal at his mercy.

To not even hit the target… criminal.

But don’t think Pep did him any favours bringing him on. He’s a top player but we needed more steel in defence to close it out.

I dont disagree with you points about not shootinf and mediocre teams being more than happy to go toe-to-toe with but theyrr for another thread. With regards to Mcatee, never said it was easy but it's not easy playing for one of the best sides in the world. You have to make an impact when it matters and you have to do it consistently at the very top. That chance has to go in.

Taking those chances and turning up when it really matters is what gets you upgraded from a kid on the fringes to a fully fledged squad member. If he scores that, we likely win the game comfortably and everybody is talking about mcatee making an impact again and pushing for a start. These little things are vital for kickstarting careers and can cost others careers.
