The production of most German war materials peaked in Autumn or Winter of 1944. The production of U-boats didn't actually fall at all. Peak production was April 1945! However, let's exclude the Ruhr from the equation and you're left with various cities in Germany that were bombed for no strategic purpose whatsoever. Millions were killed and brought the end of the war no nearer at all. It was a dreadful waste of life, including bomber aircrews - absolutely terrible job that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Let's not forget that the original idea behind bombers was to to demoralise an enemy into surrendering. That obviously didn't happen and never has. Area bombing has been an unmitigated failure as a military strategy. Precision bombing is far more sound both morally and strategically.SWP's back said:Area bombing in WWII was not dodgy in the slightest.

Yet anyone who believes this happened the way we have been told is now a fucking idiot.
