A club crest we can all agree on..

chelsea changed their crest a few seasons into abramovich investment hasn't done them any harm, also the old badge has never gone away it's still sold on products in the shop, is used on banners/flags seen in the ground and so could easily be reinvented like gavs designs and brought into use, the current crest would still be a marketing tool also just like the old badge is now, so not really a smack your head against the wall moment is it

Changed before they started their assault on global marketing 2005 and winning all the trophies they have done in the past 9 years. Too late to change a badge we will need to wait till at least we win a Champions League then we will be able to rightly add a star above the badge. This will clearly lead to a redesign of the badge you lot on this thread haven't really thought very hard about that have you.

Not necessarily so. The current 3 stars have no reference to the Champions League compared to the stars on other club's crest do. The stars we currently have, to my knowledge, represent the past success in Europe as a whole, so winning the CL would add a 4th star if anything based on the current logic of the crest.

We aren't saying the club will ever change it. I agree if they were ever to change it, the club would ensure their place in the global marketplace was secured before thinking of a re-brand.

CFG didnt really help by re-branding one club they own when they didn't need to. That just put the idea that, ultimately, they might want a continuous brand globally. We'll see if Yokohama F Marino's suddenly turn into Yokohama City (think CFG would need a controlling stake for that) for that theory to work. So nothing would happen before then regardless.

Wont stop us discussing possible alternatives, current or past crest we prefer or don't prefer .... as a bit of fun or to pass the time.

Very good points.

From what I remember the 3 stars on the current logo have no recognition with any success that the club have had. At the time when it was discovered that Manchester City did not have the licence to the old badge it was felt that a new badge needed to be created so that the club could use it without restriction. The badge was first introduced on the Kappa kit which I believe was around 1997. The stars were added to make the badge look more symmetrical. Could be wrong but this is all from memory.

There needs a bit of red or maroon in the middle where the three rivers are for
this to be a classic.

The one I requested was too gold & didn't really work. I'd combine the two,
have a white outline with the same centre as the 2nd posted.

If only you were employed by Franny in 1997 :(
 
i really havent done anything new. all i did was take the current CFG crest of NYCFC and MelCityFC, combined elements from past club crests. That's probably why folks like it, because it feels familiar to them.

Personally, if City did venture into changing the crest, i hope they did something more adventurous than what i'm limited to do.

This one, even though is close to the CFG crests, i doubt could be used because its too similar to the old crest which we had to change to the current crest because someone owns it. Added to the fact that the maltese crosses/st.mark crosses could be perceived as religious symbols could alienate potential areas of the world, even if they arent meant to be viewed that way.

As a fan .... i'd want something more. but that itself could be argumentative amongst us fans. I guess it if not broke, don't fix it.
