A club crest we can all agree on..

Come on Gav, let's see a couple of Lancashire roses instead of the crosses. I do like the crosses however I would like to see what to 2 small Lancashire roses would look like.

Already been mentioned but the Lancashire Rose is nothing to do with Manchesster anymore.

It's really outdated as far as we're concerned.

I think the crosses look good but with the connection to the crusades and all, can't see them being incorporated - there's a reason why the Red Cross is known as the Red Crescent in some parts of the world.

I think bees might be more appropriate as they're all over the city now (well on the bins anyway) or perhaps with Manchester's social leanings we could have a hammer and sickle.

I'm not advocating putting a Lancashire rose at the core of the badge, just at the side, and relatively small. As for Manchester not being in Lancashire well we could argue all day. If Manchester is not Lancashire why do Lancashire play cricket at Old Trafford?

Old Trafford is not in Manchester perhaps. :-) Of course before the re organisation in the seventies Manchester was part of Lancashire, and so was Liverpool, once the Metropolitan areas created of course Manchester became distinct in its own right and incorporated a large swathe of towns which became greater Manchester. Rammy was right on the fringe and I know a lot of debate took place whether in GM or Lancs, never stopped me being proud of being a Lancastrian though. I suspect if in Yorks it would be a white rose, nothing to get upset about either way but still like the red rose but that is just my opinion.

Greater Manchester is not really a county is it, it's just for local government purposes like with Humberside, which is really East Yorkshire. I have never met anyone from the towns of Greater Manchester who if asked which county are you from would say Greater Manchester, they would always say Lancashire.

Agree, when asked where I am from it is always Rammy, next is where the hell is that, Rossendale Valley, wheres that they say, Lancashire, in fact never usually mention the fact that Rammy is now part of GM. Expect those born and bred in Manchester to say the same except most people know where Manchester is. If I get asked oh thats where the rags are always tell them they are in Trafford Greater Manchester where the cricket ground is. :-)

We gained independence from Lancashire! Much like London, Manchester doesn't need to be part of an old fashioned county. Much like Singapore can be a whole country in its own when it's just a city; we're that important!

Counties are very yesteryear. Yorkshire people are obsessed with counties, but it's not the 1700s anymore.

Manchester is independent but it's wealth was made on the back of the cotton industry from the whole of Lancashire, not doubting you want the crest to be purely Manchester and I appreciate that but for some old fashioned buggers like myself I just like the red rose. :-)

Aye!

I like the rose and consider myself Lancastrian and Mancunian, but to be accurate we were part of the hundred of salford an independent county within Lancashire and no directly part of Lancashire administratively I would prefer the red rose or the bee instead of the crosses personally

Very true Rammy, and on the City badge and the Manchester coat of arms is a classic sailing ship transporting cotton to the rest of the world.

Anyway back to the thread, if you get a chance Gav I would still like to see 2 small Lancashire roses where the 2 crosses are the moment.

My vote would also be either 2 or 5, and maybe the coat of arms for any finals.

Looking at the old maps so was Rammy (well Holcombe really, that was the bit in the Doomsday book). On a less serious note on many away days why then did city fans always sing Lanky Lanky at some stage during games outside the county? :-)

I'm in my early 30's and the rose means nothing to me but I know what it represents.

Teenagers today probably have no idea at all and as time goes on the rose will become less and less relevant to the area.

I suspect those craving the rose are the 50 and over crowd harking back to a time gone by.

Exactly you youngsters have got no istory. :-)

I'm under 50 actually, and most club badges, and City coats of arms use historical references, what's wrong with that?

I have no doubt when City were formed in 1880 the founders would of classed themeslves as proud Lancastrians. It is also worth pointing out that we have a growing fan base these days, and Lancashire is the most obvious place outside of Manchester or Greater Manchester to attract new supporters.
